Me and my wife have lived here for 2+ years and have been extremely happy. I feel rent is about average for the DM Metro area. The apartments have more of a "townhome" feel and are loaded with cool amenities. There are lots of windows and the spaces are full of natural light. If you rent a second floor apartment, you will also have vaulted ceilings, sky lights and floor-to-ceiling windows. Each unit has either a balcony or patio large enough for a grill and small dining set, at least. Units all have in-house laundry, which is a huge plus. All units are updated and renovated, inside and out, on a frequent basis. They are fairly modern do not look like they were constructed in the 70s. One knock on the units themselves, is that the walls are fairly thin. This is a quite property overall, but you can hear your neighbors through the walls from time to time, but for us, it hasn't been a huge issue. The property management is probably the best I've ever dealt with in my 15+ years of renting. They will respond same-day to any service request and are very pleasant to deal with. They even have a monthly drawing for $50 off next month's rent if you pay your rent before the due date. (side note: Their website is super handy. You can pay rent and request service all without having to leave your apartment or picking up the phone. However, management and maintenance all operate on-site, so they are almost always immediately available.) Outdoor maintenance is also very superb. Lots and walks are plowed quickly after a snow, and you rarely have to deal with snow packed parking stalls (at least not for very long.) Lawn and landscape are kept up quite nicely, to the point that the surrounding property is very park-like. There are trails throughout the property and they will lead you to the surrounding city trails. There is recycling on the property, and they host a spring clean-up event every year when they bring in a giant dumpster so you can throw away just about anything that you may no longer need. Location is what you make of it. Johnston isn't known for its nightlife. Though there are a couple worthy restaurants/bars nearby, there isn't much else going on. It's about a 20 minute drive to downtown DM (30-45 minutes by bike and about a $30-40 Uber ride,) so if you're a social butterfly, keep in mind this place is about as far away from the city as you can get in a DM suburb. That being said, Johnston is one of the safest cities in the country and you probably won't find a better apartment in town, and maybe even the metro.
