My wife and I applied for an "affordable apartment". We have a 2 yr old and are expecting a baby here soon. We really wanted a 3Rd room for a nursery. Thewife is very thorough and pays great attention to detail so before we spent the $80 to apply she made sure that we would qualify financially for the the apartment. The app. process was terrible! we made it through and 2 days later we got a phone call saying that we had the apartment and we could plan to move in. We put down the deposit to hold the apartment. My wife was very happy that soon she could start "nesting". A couple days later they needed us to come down and fix some stuff on our app. My wife asked just to confirm "so we for sure still have the apartment? Is it safe to put our notice in?" The lady working for Arbor Crossing said it was safe to put notice in. My wife put in notice that day. We went down to the office a couple days later and fixed the paper work. Shortly after we left they called us saying that we did not qualify because my wife received child support and that would put us over the income limit. This frustrated my wife because she had done the math and even if were receiving child support we would still meet the income limits. However, although we had a child support order in place we had never received a payment. So instead of arguing my wife went and waited in line for an hour to get proper documentation that she wasnt receiving child support and got the proper paper work to Arbor Crossing that day. Shortly after that she received another phone call from Arbor Crossing. Now things started to get weird... The lady at Arbor Crossing said she looked up my wife's son's father and saw that he had been released from prison in December. My wife had previously told them that one of the many reasons she hadnt received child support was because our son's father was incarcerated. My wife didnt understand what the lady was trying to get at. She felt like the lady was trying to make her out to be a liar or something??? It didnt make any sense. It was none of their business where her ex was or when he was released. The fact was that she wasnt receiving support. She felt very uncomfortable that they were digging into her private life and that they were pulling up repositorys on her ex instead of trying to get us into an apartment. We called and tried to retract the notice we had put into move from our apartment but found out that they already had it rented. I was over it! I felt protective over my wife at this point (she is the nicest person) and I wanted to search else where for a different place but my wife really wanted this apartment and the application process had been so strenuous she didnt want to turn back. She shrugged this off. THEN...a couple days later she got another call. They needed our son's birth certificate. My wife had never received one. So she paid $30 and had to wait 10 business days to get it. She called them about a week later and left them a message saying that she got notice that it had been sent out and she would be bringing it down in the next few days. She got a call from Arbor Crossing that we still didnt qualify for the apartment because we made too much money even when they werent counting child support. This made no sense! My wife had checked the numbers several times to make sure AGAIN and jyst incase she had me check too. She asked the lady to read the numbers they had for our incomes. It turned out it was a simple mathematical mistake on their part. They had me making $2000 more than I actually make. My wife was really nice about it and told the lady about the error and the lady laughed at her like she was stupid and refused to check her math and said that it was right and that we didnt qualify. After all that we had been through to get this place and 3 weeks of thinking we were approved they couldnt even check their math! My wife was devastated! we were out $80 for the apps, $15 for the money order refund for the deposit (Gas stations dont do refunds and Arbor doesnt take checks or cash for deposits, $30 for the birth cerificate, 3 wks of our time, we drove all over town for them and we had to be out of our apartment soon. It sucked not knowing our fate when we are expecting a baby and have a 2 yr old. Luckily we were approved for a nicer place somewhere else in one day! This place welcomed us and gave us no problems. Stay clear of this place! You should feel welcomed at a place you are going to be living not like they are trying to find reasons to not have you there.

Hello Anonymous, Thank you for your review. I apologize that we were unable to get you approved into one of our apartment homes. Some of our apartments are under Section 42 Federal Tax Credit program. It is a very detailed, lengthy process, which is reviewed extensively by multiple certified tax credit professionals. The determination of approval is based off of all information submitted by employers, bank statements, and applicant certifications. We are held by Federal HUD regulations and are unable to approve every file. We make every attempt to accommodate with our non-tax credit apartments when possible. If you would like to discuss this situation with us further, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Best, Community Manager
