The Park Apartments
Resident • 2010 - 2011 Not Recommended
I have lived here nearly a year now, and I am counting down the days until my lease is up. First of all, this is not a nice neighborhood. I cannot count how many times the police have been here in the past year. My boyfriend and I hear screaming fights outside at all hours, and it's not just one set of neighbors. It seems to be a fairly accepted behavior here. I can hear our downstairs neighbors' apartment enough to tell what they are watching on television if I am familiar with it. When the pool is open, it is extremely crowded with kids and their parents. For some reason, there is no rule about smoking in the pool area, so if you want to swim, you will likely get lungs full of smoke with it. They do not seem to maintain the pool very well, and it gets dirty easily. I chose not to visit the fitness room or tanning beds after my visit to the pool. Though the front desk workers are usually friendly, they are also careless. I had a package delivered to the office with a $500 item inside. When I went to pick it up, I found the doors to the community center wide open but with no employee inside and my $500 package sitting out in the open for anyone to take. Also, if I have more than one package, I have to specifically tell them that or they will only give me one. I have had to go back several times when I realized a second package had been delivered. They also tend to get more wrapped up in their work. Most months when I stop by to pay my rent, they are wrapped up in something else and don't acknowledge my existence for quite some time. Finally, they are not always open when they say they are. Their office hours on the front of the building clearly list that they are open on Saturdays, but I can recall at least two Saturdays when I had a package to pick up and they were closed all day. It's very frustrating not knowing whether someone will be in or not. As far as the apartment itself, it is not of high quality. Our dishwasher was broken and our sink was leaking when we first moved in. Fortunately, that problem was fixed almost immediately by an excellent repairman. However, the shelves in the closets are literally falling off the walls. Our bathtub faucet would not work properly to switch from shower to bath; my boyfriend had to remove the entire faucet from the wall, soak it in CLR for an entire day, and WD-40 the lever to get it to work. The glass inside our oven was broken when we moved in. Cold air comes in through the windows. The "custom" wall colors are very ugly - a rusty reddish orange and an odd shade of yellow. The carpet is cheap and scratchy. Even with a two bedroom apartment, we only got one assigned parking spot. We have never had a problem finding a spot, but it would be much more convenient to have two assigned spots, and we would have been willing to pay extra for that. It is simply not offered. Also, there are several residents who seem to make a habit out of hanging out in the parking lot all day, and I find it uncomfortable to drive past them all the time. They usually have a beer in their hands, no matter the time of day or day of the week. I have seen them get in the car with the beer still in their hands. Disgusting. The laundry facility is fairly average. It doesn't seem to be very clean. It requires quarters, which is annoying. The washers and dryers are often occupied, especially on weekends and in the evenings. Some dryers work much better than others, and there have been a couple occasions where one of the washers has stopped draining properly. Overall, I would absolutely not recommend this apartment. You get what you pay for.
