I lived in Hillside for two years. The price is great, but that's about it for this housing complex. The biggest problem I had was with management's attitude towards entering the apartments. Three separate times I had management or maintenance enter my apartment without any advance notice. All three times I was alone in the apartment and exited my personal bedroom to walk out into the kitchen/living room to find either the housing manager (male) or maintenance workers (also young men) in my apartment. You cannot hear anyone knocking on the front door if you are in a bedroom with a tv on. This created a very hostile living condition as I was not comfortable being alone in my apartment with someone I didn't know. When I confronted management about this problem they were very difficult to deal with stating that I signed a contract that said they could enter my apartment whenever they deemed necessary. This is true. My first year living in this complex we had a different manager who always let us know when to expect people in the apartments. I always planned to be gone during this period of time because I didn't want to be home alone with them. This was not the case with the second year under the new management. None of my roommates had this problem which I found additionally unsettling because the manager stated on several occasions that he knew which vehicles we drove so he essentially knew who was home when. I felt targeted and unsafe and hope that no one else is put into the position that I was.
