Resident 2010 - 2011

5/1/2011

As students at two different Universities, my husband and I moved here because we found it was very reasonably priced for the space, and it provided for a fairly easy commute for each of us. We chose the area because it was smaller and quiet; we would not have to deal with many other students like you would with most apartments in the Edwardsville/Granite City area. In honesty, when we first drove up to the area we were not impressed, at all. It looks a little run down at first glance. When we toured the homes, we decided on a 2br 1.5 bath. Yes, the apt. needed a bit of TLC upon first moving in, but anytime you move you have to do a good thorough cleaning. We have been living here for several months now, and over all we are pretty happy with our space. As far as maintenance, we have had a nice share of problems, but the staff have always been over in a reasonable time frame to fix it. Our main complaint, would have to be the squirrel problem we seem to be having. Because the shingles of the roof are wooden(and could use replacing for that matter), and we live on the outer unit, there are just a few squirrels living in the walls, and they tend to be a bit noisy and frustrating. As horrible a nightmare it sounds, it really isn't that bad. Our neighbors 5yr old tends to be more loud. It is just annoying to wake up to what my husband loving refers to as "Squirrel War III" as they are sometimes fighting back and forth. The utilities bills being only electric, did end up very high in the winter, Shockingly high actually. I'm not sure if this is because of the insulation of the building, or because of Ameren.I'm sure it could be a toss up. It is a bit of culture shock to move to Bethalto, my husband and I both moving from St.Louis found it irritating that the whole town shuts down at 10:00pm, and it is weird to have so small a population. But again, it is a nice quiet "down home" ambiance compared to loud, partying students, which we both out grew patience for quickly, leading us to our decision to move. All in all, we have been pleased with our space. For the price and area, you can't expect it to be 5 stars, but it is one of the nicer areas to live in Bethalto. Some of the area apartments are just down right frightening. We give a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
