Be careful of the move out check list

I did not like these apartments before we left and like them even less now. We could not even put clothes in the small bedroom closet and shut the door. The hangers stuck out from the rod and you had to leave the closet door open. The noise was horrible. You could hear the neighbors making all kinds of noise. We lived on the top floor and were always being woken up or movies were interrupted due to the noise. The smell was awful. There was always some sort of cooking smell rafting through the apartment from other apartments. Somebody in our building was always cooking something and it rarely smelt good. When it is icy, the tenants have to put the salt down because maintenance rarely does it. Snow removal was done from the parking lot and the sidewalk leading into the building. If you had to walk your dog, you must walk through the snow on the sidewalks in front of the building because they never cleaned those. The place is falling apart. The drywall tape is leaving huge gaps between the ceiling and the walls. Instead of fixing it, the crew is just putting up crown molding. Here comes the best part. I have lived in several apartments and I have never HAD TO PROFESSIONALLY clean the carpets before I left. We do not have any stains in our carpet but if we do not have the carpets cleaned, the apartment complex will charge us $75. We have to remove smudges and marks on the doors. OK these people use cheap paint. If you bring anything across the doors, you will leave a mark. If you have anything wrong with the apartment before you move in, you better mark it on your move in check list. I mean stains on the floors, wearing of carpet, crappy workmanship, chewed on baseboards, chipped or cracked outlet covers because you will be charged all of this when you leave. If you have any burnt out lights when you move in make them replace them because you will have to replace all light bulbs when you leave. If your apartment is not spotless when you move in, insist that they make it so. You will have to have the place spotless when you move out. You are even required to clean the tracks and frames of windows or you will be charged.
