Resident 2008 - 2009

Seriously hate having to leave!!!!

I have stayed here with my wife for the past 9 months and now we have to move out because of our work. Trust me - it hurts!!! Being a vintage apartment comes with its own advantages. In any case, try imagining all this in a Chicago DOWNTOWN apartment: - SPACIOUS rooms - BIG Kitchen with a sit in area and PLENTY of cabinets - 'REAL' walk in closets We love cooking. And almost every downtown apartment we checked (we checked 10-15!!!) had a kitchen just as a formality. As big as a closet. Anything bigger - and the rent shot up. So the big kitchen here was a GRAND surprise. (And we LOVE gas stove!!) Now to come to the other advantages: - Hardwood flooring. No worry about 'staining' or damaging the carpet - Built in Bookshelves in some apartments. Looks really nice - Free internet, cable, gas, heat, water!!! We just paid about $35 for electricity The building: - Free gym, storage space - Package collection service, 24 hr security - Although its 'vintage' its well maintained. I have stayed in other vintage apartments which really do seem like they are going to crumble - Needless to mention, great location!!! 24 he jewel osco, walgreens, red line, bustops, the best downtown resturants are all a few steps away - Freight elevators The staff: Like Dee, one of the security persons had told us on the first day 'Its not a BIG apartment complex. There are fewer people. We know each other. We prefer to keep it that way - like a family' And a very nice family at that - Work orders get attended to promptly. If it has something to do with the building being vintage - they tell it to you on the face instead of beating around the bush or trying to make you seem like the problem. - Security really works. Not the 'taken for granted' who let you enter just cos you smiled. There is no 'electronic entry' system which is actually a boon. There is no way anybody can enter unless the security KNOWS you stay there and opens the door for you. Or unless you make your purpose clear - Nelly, the apartment manager helped us a LOT while we were moving in..and when we were moving out by helping us with any documentation that we needed for our company. The small but important things which really matter a LOT can only happen in such a 'family' environment and not in the big management apartments which are more like 'systems' and less like people - Would surely remember all the staff: Lucy, Dee, Bonnie, Nelly, Jamie and everybody else. Of course, there are minor things that other reviewers have mentioned like slow elevators, or an elevator not functioning - but that happens everywhere or is plain insignificant. No parking - but I never had to own one in Downtown Chicago. It worked perfetly for me. It does get a little noisy at night (many night clubs in the area) (I remember and appreciate that Nelly had herself mentioned it to me when she had shown me the apartment) It was not just a great apartment, but a dream HOME for us!! Great apartment, staff, location and value. What more could we ask for!!
