Resident 2005 - 2007

8/3/2007

This is easily the worst company I have ever rented from. From never having lightbulbs in our stair case (meaning every night we had to navigate three flights of stairs in the pitch black) to not having a working doorknob on the outside door to erratic heating during the winter, our time spent living with Lee Street was always made consistently frustrating by Lee Street's poor management. Trying to get ahold of someone at the office was like trying to put a call through to the President so trying to get them to fix these problems was nearly impossible if maintenance ignored y our request. By the way, Michael Lee has apparently instructed his secretaries (who it seems like he makes refer to him as "Mr. Lee") that he will not speak directly with tenants, so good luck ever having a meeting with him. The most egregious problems, however, began this summer when our entire building was kicked out of our homes before our leases ended to make way for condos. We had been warned nearly two years ago that condos conversion was eminent, but were always kept in the dark about when the process would begin. After months of avoiding all questions, at the beginning of June we were sent letters saying conversion was indeed happening and that we might be able to stay past our September leases on a month-by-month basis but that they were also looking for "volunteers" to leave early. A month later, we received letters saying we had to vacate within 30 days. Throughout all this their staff would smile and call you "sweetie" and tell you how they were willing to accomodate you as much as possible but when you asked for anything they'd give you a giant run around. Conveniently, Michael Lee "left the country" for most of July. To top this off, after we spent an entire day cleaning our apartment, they took out of our security deposit $75 for cleaning fees (for an oven and shelves that were stained when we moved in). They also took another $75 for the four sets of cheap blinds that broke while we lived in the apartment. The damage on these blinds was a small plastic holder on the bracket, all of which broke during the course of casually lowering the blinds. In general, Lee Street is a vicious company to rent from. They kicked us out of our apartment without ever acknowledging what they'd done and without apologizing. They could not have cared less about us as people.
