Resident 2010

7/1/2010

505 W. Belmont is the worst rental unit experience I have ever had in my entire life, and I have rented alot. This review should serve as a serious disclaimer for anyone considering renting here. This morning, I was awakened at 6 AM with a knock on the door. Before I had a chance to respond, the door was pushed open and two black men with white bandannas over their faces barged in. I was punched repeatedly all over my body, and told I would be killed if I did not give them my wallet. While one of the perpetrators forced me onto my bed, taped my mouth shut, and bound my hands, the other completely ransacked the place, taking a laptop, digital camera, checks, ipod, and even clothing. Luckily for me, they left my cell phone and I was able to call police immediately after they left and I had loosened the tape. Miraculously, the home invaders where apprehended while fleeing onto the back fire escape. Only after the fact did I find out that the tenant in an adjacent unit had basically given the criminals access to the building via prostituting herself to them. Aside from feeling completely unsafe in this building, I echo what other reviews have said : the "laundry room" is a disgrace and a joke, 2 of the 4 washing machines were plugged with dirty standing water, the dryers didn't work either. Oh, and if you do not like cockroaches, you are out of luck if you liver here - no matter how clean you are. I kept a clean place and constantly found roaches in the kitchen and bathroom and in cupboards. It was absolutely disgusting. Upon contacting the new "Apartment Rentals Management, LLC" I was told they put in an "application" for me to see an exterminator and I would be contacted. I never was. They also repeatedly ignored requests to have the disgusting, mildewy bathtub cleaned (see other reviews about the bathrooms if you don't believe me). Paint was chipping off, the bathtub was yellow. The one positive thing about my experience here was the new building engineer, who I found fairly responsive to tenant concerns. He is obviously overworked because the management is so terrible, and seems to do the best he can under limited resources. Without a doubt, this building is an abomination. Yes, it is cheap, and it is in a happening neighborhood. However, please, for your own safety and well-being, AVOID this place.
