Resident 2018 - 2020

2/3/2020

Reside on Wellington's only redeeming quality is its location. The units themselves are small, overpriced, and lack basic amenities like a dishwasher. Depending on when you sign your original lease, your renewal options will be prorated in an attempt to return to a summer lease cycle. In my case, it was way more expensive to renew my 12 month lease (starting mid-September) than it was to sign a 10-month lease (ending in June). There is also a $50 monthly association fee included on top of the original quoted rate. It often feels like they are trying to nickel-and-dime you rather than work with you. Most importantly, know that just because an amenity is promised doesn't mean it will be delivered. To the frustration of many residents, management closed the rooftop - the only common space available and the most advertised amenity - without warning between October 2018 and August 2019. The communication around this closure was vague, and even when re-opening dates were promised, they were missed. Reside sends out tons of communication about frivolous topics (new rewards partners, happy hours, etc. ) but hesitates to discuss anything that actually matters to residents in detail or in writing. Another example - when I signed my lease, it was with the understanding that the building had universal WiFi. However, this too was turned off for nearly a year for "updates". Reside provided no details in writing about the timeline of these updates, just that the previous provider was unreliable. When they finally implemented a new WiFi provider, they did so with the knowledge that it would no longer reach all units in the building - literally announcing that "it will no longer reach every apartment" - though they tried to portray this update as something that was positive for the whole community I don't believe this WiFi update was ultimately made with the community in mind as I find it hard to believe that anyone would prioritize WiFi reliability on the roof over actual availability in their own apartment. Now I pay even more a month than previously budgeted because I need WiFi to work from home. If you're looking into a Reside property, know that even though you pay extra for promised amenities, they can be taken away without notice or recompense.
