Resident 2011

10/4/2011

Yeah, I like living here, but I also might have gotten lucky. See, there are three locations of Forest Hill Apartments; two in Clarendon Hills, and one in Westmont (but they are all on the same street). I got put in the Westmont one, which to my knowledge is WAY more convenient to live in. They are the least crowded looking, and the parking situation is unquestionably better. The Clarendon Hills locals have super cramped parking, apparently people fight over the spaces, and they look like a nightmare to maneuver around in in the snowy winter. In Westmont, like half of the people in my building purchased garage space for their cars, so there are always like 8 parking spots open by my front door at all times. And you don't need a parking permit in Westmont, but you will in C-Hills. Parking is enough reason alone to request the Westmont location if you can. I got off to kind of a rough start living there, because my place became overrun with ants and spiders in my first couple weeks of living there, seemed like I made a terrible choice to live here. But then I took it into my own hands, set up ants traps, sprayed problem areas with RAID for a little while, and I haven't had any bugs since. Might have been nice if they sprayed it before I moved in, but I handled it, and now it's not a problem anymore. They haven't been back since the first month i lived there. The refrigerator is cheap, I broke part of the door off just by putting a jar of salad dressing down a little too hard. I taped it back up, but I'm sure I'll lose some of my security deposit (I assume). My neighbors are all way older than me (I'm in my 20s), and they all seem like really nice people (they all say hello and smile when you see them in the hallways, none of them look threatening). One guy is super old, and plays his TV really loud, which you can hear in the hallway. But once you go in your own apartment, you can't hear anything. I'm on the first floor, and the only noise I can hear from the apartment above me is when the old lady's grand kids come over and start running around every other weekend. I can't hear voices or anything, just thumping of the feet. There is a huge problem (to me) of people slamming doors (even at like 5 AM, such an a-hole move), but I don't think it's an act of aggression or anything. People are just door slamming morons, I guess. I don't know of any of the problems about the office staff that people talk about. Then again, I haven't talked to the office staff since I signed my lease, so I don't really know them very well. They seemed nice and helpful during the leasing process, though... My one bedroom apartment is decently sized, I can entertain like 8 people comfortably. Heat/AC work fine for me. Bathroom is standard, no complaints. TONS of closet space everywhere. Oven cooks my food thoroughly. This place isn't the Ritz, folks, it's an apartment building. In Westmont, IL. For not that much money. Take what you can get. Being two minutes away from Uncle Bub's BBQ restaurant isn't a bad perk, either. I only vouch for the Westmont location, because I gather it's better than the other two.
