Resident 2009 - 2011

12/28/2011

Positives: I live in the "A" building. It is a pretty quiet building, no druggies or problem people in this building. The other buildings are where the problems are, so I'm glad I got an apartment in this building. Management has changed in the past few years, the new male manager is an honest guy unlike the past female manager. I love the location, I can walk to the bus stop, I'm right by the expressway, all the stores, and it's a great school district, the bus even picks the kids up right on the corner 1 block away. Negatives: It took me over a year to get my refrigerator fixed, I've had a leaky kitchen sink for the past 2 years and it hasn't been fixed yet. The maintenance guy is nice, but he takes orders from the slumlord, so not much is done around here as far as maintenance goes. They only do the bare minimum. I got into an accident a year ago sliding out of the driveway because the parking lot is NEVER salted, always icy in winter. There is dog poop everywhere, no one cleans it up. There is no secure entry system, strangers just come and go as they please, and things often get stolen around here. Oh, and there are many different species of spiders. One of the tenants goes through the hallway with a blowtorch to kill them in order to get into the laundry room or storage. The landlord does not pay for any type of extermination service here. You're on your own, buy your own bug bomb. Parking is lousy if you work 2nd shift, it fills up after 6pm mostly by non-tenants since there is no assigned parking. Off topic, but landlord owns a few buildings in the ------, which are also not taken care of. Landlord's wife complained to me how they are struggling to survive because their 5 properties aren't getting filled up...hmmm...wonder why!?! Utility cost: Everything here is electric, my average electric bill is $120/month in winter and $250 in summer because the central a/c is 40 years old and works very poorly in all the units. Water prices are $18 a month per adult and I think $12 per kid. There is a pool here but it hasn't been filled in the last 2 years, so I'm not sure why we're paying so much for water. Bottom line: I'd have stayed if the landlord cared more about the building and tenants. He is truly a slumlord. I've found a better place now in hinsdale without excessive spiders and where everything isn't falling apart and you can walk without stepping in dog poop.
