Pros:
-Location right in downtown Evanston close to restaurants, shopping, entertainment, groceries
-Huge rooms, high ceilings, lots of storage space in your apartment
-Underground parking available, street parking is hit or miss
-Attractive facade and courtyard
-Laundry facilities on site
-On-site superintendent is a great guy and was fairly quick to help when needed

Cons:
-Building manager at Arthur Goldner & Assoc. is extremely rude and often difficult to deal with
-The building itself is ancient (circa 1900) and some floors are better maintained than others
-Mice, we lived on the top floor of the building (5th floor) and they still managed to get into our apartment from a huge hole behind the oven
-Bedrooms on the alley are incredibly noisy each day at 6:30am when the garbage trucks come through to empty all the trash from nearby restaurants

Don't get me wrong, the John Evans Building was a great place to live. As an NU student, the rent we paid for living so close to campus and downtown was a steal. Our apartment was really beautiful with large windows, new carpeting and tons of space. However, I can't emphasize enough how rude and abrasive the building manager is. Avoid her at all costs! Also, the age of the building is a bit of a drawback. In addition to the mice, the age of the electrical wiring is also a minor problem. Don't run a vacuum cleaner, A/C, and computer at the same time or you'll blow the circuit.

Overall, this is a decent place to live, especially for college students.
