Resident 2008 - 2009

7/2/2009

I lived here from 08 - 09 and loved my experience at Park Forest. However, depending on what you are looking for this may or may not be for you. Noise: I lived on the second floor and I could sometimes hear my neighbors through the thin floors. Also, the grounds were relatively quiet, although the apartments right off of the parking lots may experience traffic noises/car doors slamming after hours (between 10 pm - 12 pm). This was sometimes a problem, but it wasn't too bad. The view from our windows was also of the parking lot. Therefore, if possible try to live somewhere overlooking grass or the park. Office staff: I found the office staff to be very friendly and personable. Porch: As soon as we moved in we wished we had gotten an apartment with a porch, as our neighbors were always out on their porch. (Personal preference) Atomosphere: This apartment complex is designed for families (all 3 of my neighbors had kids). However, both my roommate and I were college students and we enjoyed the quieter atmosphere and meeting different people. Management: I really appreciated the hands-off approach of the management. At my previous apartment, the management felt like parents enforcing rules, and we constantly received notices of changes, threats of fines, or monthly reminders of rent. At Park Forest, I felt like I had much more autonomy within my apartment and only received notices for basic standards (like fire extinguisher checks). Our apartment was also never shown to other potential renters. The grounds keeping was also more slack, but I personally liked this more relaxed style. Heat: The second floor apartments were so hot during the winter that we never once turned on the heat. In fact, we had to open the windows and turn on the AC/fan sometimes to cool the apartment down. Beginning in May, we also had to turn the AC on to keep the apartment bearable. I love the heat, however, so having a toasty apartment during the winter was a great perk. For what it's worth, our power bill was on average $50-60. Maintenance: We only needed to call them twice and they came within 24 hours. Not sure about other people's experiences. Hopefully this helps someone! I don't think this apartment is better or worse than some others, I just really enjoyed my experience and what they had to offer.
