Carriage House Apartments

As far as the neighbors, be concerned. Although the complex is located in a good residential neighborhood, inadequate screening of prospective tenants in the past has resulted in some obvious drug problems, broken-down cars in the parking lots, and loud neighbors. Although the rent is moderate, apparrently quite a few leases there have ended with eviction recently. My biggest problem with living there was security - no exterior locks on the building, no steel fire doors on the apartments themselves, and flimsy locks.

The complex is about 35 years old. My building was in dire need of maintenance. There was extensive water damage to the ceiling. In the last 7 months I lived there, the roof was inhabited by squirrels. I talked to someone in another building and he had the same problem. The paint was peeling in many spots, which was a problem because lead-based paint had been used previously. For nearly a year, I had a broken air conditioner. Half the time there was no hot water. There were also minor repair problems, such as leaky plumbing and cracked grout in the bathroom. The former management and maintenance personnel were not at all responsive; however, the current manager Sonia and the repair man currently employed have really improved the service. Hopefully their efforts will result in better satisfaction in the future.
