My husband and I moved from Massachusetts to Illinois in July 2008 and chose Woodlake. The place was nice, the prices were lower than what we'd been paying and the people seemed very nice.
Shortly after we moved in, the management company changed, but we didn't notice a huge change at that time.
That first winter we had numerous problems with our master bath. We were on an end unit, and our pipes froze. At first they recommended leaving our water running constantly to keep them from freezing (which we would not do, as we paid our own water bill), then they came in and used my hair dryer to try and thaw the pipes. Then they cut a hole in the wall between the toilet and sink, put in a vent and left a cheapo little space heater that we had to leave on all the time. It died shortly thereafter and we ended up buying an energy efficient one so that our electric costs didn't go up.
The fireplace looked nice, but didn't add much heat at all in the winter unless you were within about 1 foot of it. The kitchen was nice, no issues with those appliances. Lots of closet space. When we had our son, it was great having the washer/dryer right in the apartment. But then our water heater pilot light started going out on a regular basis. I don't know why it did, but I got proficient at relighting it, because it happened so frequently.
