Resident 2011 - 2012

3/30/2012

It is NOT worth the price, I agree. I have yet to figure out where the "luxury" lies. The apartments are 14 years old, and show every bit of their age. Everything is for show - outsider impressions. (They better not get too close, though.) Windows ARE drafty and awful - and I don't think that mine have ever been cleaned. As for clean, only the top layer is cleaned in the kitchen and bathroom for move-in. So, you inherit years worth of grunge and food crud build-up, everywhere, on everything. Yuck. And the painters get paint on everything...they don't know how to tape, remove fixtures or use drop-cloths. They should be charged back for damage, but tenants bear the results, so who cares!? I don't think that I have ever seen such basic appliances as these old, 14 year old ones. There is not even a timer on the stove, or a cycle end buzzer on the dryer. Bare bones - and aged (14 yrs). Just dealing with the spring hinged doors is a joke...hard to open (keyed) with one hand and get thru while carrying anything without them slamming on you/into you. NOT A Convenience!! And, depending on the location of your apartment, you could have up to 3 to deal with. Who thinks that kind of inconvenience is a luxury? And, your entry area is carpeted! You cannot put a rug down because it won't clear the bottom of the door. So, do you track in on the carpet (?) or have to do as I do. Carry shoes out the door (which will shut on you) and put them on / take them off while you struggle to keep your purse on your arm/shoulder - and juggle anything you are carrying out/in with you? Really awkward, and inconvenient. Do you think that they have ever heard of entry rugs to leave your shoes/boots at the door. This is in the Midwest with snow and rain. Maybe this is the plan - they keep security deposit monies for soiled carpet. But, they only replace it every so many years. In between it gets DYED and cleaned. The noise will depend on the courtesy displayed by your neighbors. I have an upstairs neighbor who vacuums after midnight - and is very indiscreet with respect to her private life. Interesting, but weird. Dog poop is everywhere, and management doesn't seem to care about how easy it is to pick it up on one's shoes! It is really bad, with no rules with respect to picking it up. Management has made excuses for the dog owners! (I too have a dog.) I waited for the alleged post-winter poop pick-up service...but the grass has grown over the layers. It is too long now...needs mowing. It's in there, with new stuff nestled in. Good luck missing it! I have asked for things to be replaced and get offered "replacements", but not new...just items taken from another unit that are slightly less damaged and worn than that which needs replacing. How is this luxury? You are thought to be and treated as individuals considered to be undiscerning and accustomed and acclimated to worn, damaged and sub-par housing conditions. This is the stance taken. "These apartments are 14 years old. They can't replace "it" in all 400 apartments, you know!" Crack house dwelling comes to my mind. I guess we are like the dog poop - who cares. When it comes time for me to move out of here, I won't have to clean anything. The unit is so much cleaner than when I moved in that I will be home free with just a quick vacuum. That is the good note. Ahh, that felt good. Management needs to learn that dealing with tenants requires understanding standards. Ours and theirs might not be the same, but don't press yours on me. Don't expect me to be accepting of damage to my belongings by accepting your standards. I don't operate sub-standard and don't pay the rent that I do to live that way.
