Resident 2009

12/3/2009

My boyfriend and I moved into the property on the corner of Lake Street and Elmwood (126 N. Elmwood) and we are very pleased with the quality of the building. The walls are thick and I think made of concrete, (hanging shelves was difficult) so we never hear our neighbors from our apartment. The apartment has 14ish windows and is very sunny year-round. No central air in summer, so a window unit is needed for A/C. Every room has a fan, and for an older building it is very well maintained. The parking is terrible, but that's not the building's fault, that's just a reality of living in Oak Park. The management has always been helpful and polite to us, and they often have maintenance staff at the building fixing things and working on landscaping. The front door to the building had a broken window, and it was only like that for 2 days. They were very prompt about fixing it. We've had virtually no bugs in our apartment ever (just a couple spiders and ladybugs.) Other than the parking, my only complaints would be laundry and water. Water is included, but the temperature is a bit inconsistent. Usually I have a couple moments of really cold or hot, but once or twice this has been bad enough that I had to get out of the shower. It s a small price to pay, though. The laundry is in the basement, and as a 3rd floor resident (no elevators), it's a long walk down with the clothes. Some of the driers don't seem to work very well, and there tend to be the oriental cockroaches/water bugs by the drains. They're often dead, so I believe the management sprays, but they are still gross. They don't climb, though, so we never see them in our apartment. For the price, we got a nice apartment in a quiet building with lots of space. They're very pet friendly (we have a 75 pound German shepherd) and the management is kind and attentive. Just 2 blocks from the train and the grocery store, this is an excellent location. If you don't mind the crazy parking in Oak Park, I totally recommend this building or any other Oak Park Apartment run properties!
