Resident 2016

5/3/2017

Worse place to live if you want to remain healthy. If you love musty basements, high humidity, mold and mildew in your apartment, then this is the perfect place for you. I moved into this complex at the beginning of August 2016. The first morning, I got out of bed and thought I had a leak in my apartment. The carpet felt wet, the tissue in the bathroom felt damp, etc. Everyone was emailing and calling maintenance. They sent out an email that they were working on it. They corrected the very high humidity but not completely. Maintenance states there is nothing they can do about the high humidity in this apartment because new construction always has this high humidity in the building that must be released. It is a horrible place to live. High humidity causes mold to grow according to the EPA. In addition, the maintenance department could not figure out why I had a musty basement odor since the day I moved into the apartment. I found the manufacturer's HVAC paperwork in the utility closet covered in mold at the end of October 2016. I called maintenance and all they did was remove it. Still experienced musty basement odor. Contacted Orland Park Building department and they inspected my unit. We had a meeting with builders and they were forced to take down a portion of my master bedroom ceiling which is the room that the HVAC closet resides. They removed everything and installed new drywall. I lived with mold and mildew for 3 1/2 months prior to maintenance and the builders making their corrections. It was the Village of Orland Park and I who found the cause of the musty basement smell. All maintenance will tell you is this is normal and that there is nothing they can do. The head maintenance employee stated maybe I had health issues and should research that and that it was nothing in the apartment. My health issues did not start until I moved into this apartment. ------, the apartment manager, stated that it was normal to lose hair. None of this is normal. ------ did call me the night that I found the mold filled bag in my HVAC closet and stated she understood how important mold poisoning is because she had a friend who had a brother that died of mold poisoning at 31. She understood that mold kills. From a health standpoint, I would not recommend this apartment to anyone. The maintenance and builders will tell you that it will be like this for the first year. Personally, I believe it will be longer than 1 year to get rid of all dampness from this new construction. ------ won't even allow you to open your windows in the winter to get fresh air in your apartment. The reason being is because the pipes may freeze. My heat was on 70 degrees and I needed to get rid of the bad air in my apartment. I closed the windows because she forced me to close them and had to sit in my apartment experiencing breathing problems. Personally, the phone call she made to me was battery and harassment because of the mold class action suit being filed. I don't know if this will ever be a healthy environment to live. If it wasn't for the Village of Orland Park and the building inspectors, I personally believe that I would still be sleeping in my master bedroom with mold and mildew. ------- and his team members improved my health when Orland Park Crossing Apartments ruined it. The apartment does not have a privacy chain on the door and the maintenance staff is caulking, changing filters, etc. every couple of months. Don't take a shower or try to sleep in on the day your apartment has been scheduled for maintenance. They give you a day but not a time slot. You may have maintenance in your apartment when it is least convenient. They don't care because they have a very tight schedule that they must maintain. You could be evicted for prohibiting them from entering your apartment during a shower or sleeping late. Maintenance came to my apartment to remove hair from my bathtub drain. They arrived with a pair of pliers and a wet vac. I stood in the bathroom and watched maintenance pick out the hair with the pair of pliers. I asked what the wet vac was for and received the response that he was going to try to suck up the rest of the hair from the drain. I had to step out of the bathroom because I was about ready to laugh. I went back in and asked if they had a plumbers snake and their response was "no". He tried to use the wet vac and could not suck up any hair. He stated it didn't look like it was going to work. I have never seen a more unprofessional way of removing hair from a drain. Hair still existed down deep in the drain. It was like watching Abbott and Costello remove hair from a drain. For you young people, Abbott and Costello was an old comedy team. You can google "who's on first". The first floor smells like a garbage dump because the garbage dumpsters are in the first garage on the first floor. Stop by for a visit on a Tuesday which is the day before the garbage is picked up. In addition, they have garbage cans in their apartment in the kitchen cabinets. Don't confuse it with a garbage cabinet which locks in the smell. It is just a kitchen cabinet with garbage cans. The elevators may smell like a musty wet may when the mat needs to be cleaned. This smell can get into your apartment if they don't come and clean the mats prior to a weekend. I believe they have a company who comes and cleans them once a week. A sewer smell may exist in your apartment because the drain in the utility closet dries out. Maintenance will put water in the drain to fix it. If this happens on the weekend, then you will smell sewer all weekend. They are recommending "shut your trap" oil to be added to the drain to help fix this issue. I can't locate any product in any local store that has this title. The above is just some issues I have experienced while residing at this apartment complex. Make certain you ask Lincoln Property Management the right questions when touring this apartment complex.
