Resident 2008 - 2009

6/5/2009

This was the first time my boyfriend and I moved out of our parents house. The rent for the area seems cheaper than most places. Parking sucks. We finally have stickers to show that we live here but still see many without. There has been a car with a towing sticker on it since the beginning of December (It is now the beginning of June!). You will find a spot close to your apartment during the day time but around 6pm to later you will have to park a ways away. I am not handicapped but many times see non-handicapped people parking in the handicapped spots. This is extremely inconvenient when I have my grandparents come to visit. We either have to stand in one of the last close spots or go valet their car for them. But the lot is plowed daily every winter and sidewalks shoveled and salted. Noise is limited. Of course its quiet time from 9pm - 9am but still occasionally here people singing in their shower upstairs, music playing in the apartment next to us, but I guess those are the drawbacks from living in any apartment. Time to time hear construction of some sort at 7am. Wish the complex would follow their own rules. The grounds are well kept. They mow when needed and have plants all around. Blow the debris off of the sidewalks and rake up all the leaves in the fall. There is a nice pool and a very lovely clubhouse you can use for free (just need to put a refundable deposit down). They also have a very small fitness center. About three machines and some free weights. I feel safe on occasion. One of our patio doors is right outside of our bedroom and next to the stairs coming down from other balconies so we occasionally get woken up by people being loud and crossing through our patio. I would choose your apartment wisely if available. If anything becomes broken maintenance will fix it asap. The only down side is they come in whenever after you report it broken. They will knock but only allow a few seconds for you to answer then they waltz right in. We went to the manager asking about the law on when they can enter our apartment in a very kind way and she was very rude and aggressive about it. She told us only in the case of an emergency can they enter. They still enter but do have letters letting you know that they need to come into the apartment (such as relighting all pilots or checking the fire extinguishers). Good luck on a hot shower. There is only one water heater per six units. Sometimes the water will flash burning hot so you turn it down only for seconds later it turns very cold. A couple of times I have had water come up out of my sinks because the basement floods and maintenance is trying to pump it out. Only once did it spill all over my floor but maintenance cleaned it up for me. Overall this is a nice first apartment. Our one noise problem was taken care of by one phone call to the police. Great land to walk your dog and friendly neighbors. We are not sure if we will sign another years lease but it is a possibility.
