I moved out in May of 2010. I lived with a roommate. In April of 2010, I left written notice with my last rent payment that I would be leaving, and that I would no longer be on the lease [that was expired any way in February 2010]. My former roommate is now moving in November of 2011. I received an invoice in the mail. This invoice explained that I was responsible for $1,800 to replace carpet, $50 for a master bedroom door repair, and $50 for "cleaning." Firstly, the carpet was not a mess, but it was stained and obviously not new when we moved in. The master bedroom door was also already broken when we moved in. Secondly, I have not lived at this residence for more than a year, nearly two years. If I gave sufficient notice [I provided exactly what they told me I needed to provide], why am I responsible for nearly two years of apartment living that I was not involved with? Why was my name not removed from the lease? Why did the complex not re-sign contracts with the new tenants who took my place? The management staff are very shady people.
