Resident 2012 - 2014

9/4/2014

PROS: -Relatively sound proof unless you are in your living room - then you hear every step someone is taking outside in the hallway. - They do a lot of apartment community activities - from breakfast on the go to movie nights outside to cook outs (not sure that negates all the bad points about living here but it's a 'nice' touch) - The balconies are pretty decently sized and can be enjoyable IF your apartment doesn't face a parking lot. We faced trees so it was relatively nice and peaceful. Besides not recommending this apartment complex EVER, I do not recommend an apartment facing the parking lot (which the vast majority do) - when parking (especially if you are a 1st floor unit) I have to assume you will be getting headlights shone into your unit which has to be annoying. CONS: - in the winter - YOU FREEZE - no matter how high your heat is. The sliding windows/doors they brag about are extremely poorly insulated and very drafty. The actual door is beyond drafty! The wall that is shared with the exterior wall is also extremely cold to the touch in the winter. Yes, the fireplace does come in handy with all the drafts from the windows and doors but it doesn't do too much except look pretty, unless of course you are laying right next to it. - your fridge will freeze your food (no matter what setting you have it on). But again, they appliances are very outdated! - you should think about investing in a Brita water filter or pitcher because the tap water tastes a little weird. - the dishwasher is OLD and very ineffective in actually cleaning your dishes. Yes, it is a nice amenity to have a dishwasher included however, it kind of loses it's appeal when you have to hand wash dishes after they've be in the dishwasher, or run the dishwasher twice for one load. - it doesn't matter the state in which you leave your apartment after your lease is up - you will not be seeing your security deposit again! Kind of makes sense since it's such a low deposit. No matter if you have scrubbed and cleaned before leaving - you will be charged almost all of your deposit after you leave to clean. The carpet cleaning is told up front (at least to us) but we were told $50 but in fact they charged us $75 and when we questioned that we were told, "Well, it's $75 and has been for at least 5 years" - The maintenance staff itself is great - very friendly group of guys! BUT it seems as if their hands are tied and they are really only allowed to "band aid" problems. For instance, in the time we lived there we had to call 4 times on our roof leaking, each time, they gave it a day to "dry" and repainted the spot where the leak occurred. No one ever plastered the leak or did any actual work on it. It leaked a lot during this last winter, the main "repair" that was done to remedy the situation, shovel the snow off the roof, wait for my ceiling to dry and call it fixed. Now, I'm not handy man, but it that's happening it's because there is a crack of sorts and if it's been happening more than once, there is probably mold that needs to be looked at but no. - The office staff are ok. I wouldn't call them friendly or great by any means! They are usually rude and more interested in gossiping. There is one staff member in particular that is especially rude and condescending - no matter the topic. However, the staff's communication as a whole is terrible. We had to remove everything from our balcony so they could be re-stained, well the work was to be done on Tuesday and after a week of a grill sitting in our living room, I called and was told, "oh, the project is postponed for now, we'll notify when we need them cleared again." Thanks for letting me know this 6 days prior! - Do NOT trust the rent drop box! We had a rent check stolen from there one month and were first told that we would need to repay our rent since they didn't receive it even though they had multiple checks stolen that month! However, at no time did the office staff alert the "community" to tell everyone to hand in the checks personally for the time being. After this, we would personally hand in our rent checks and ask for signed receipts. Thankfully, the we were notified they were clearing our account of the delinquent month we didn't pay. - We've had our water and gas turned off multiple times to "fix" this or that always with less than 24 hours' notice. Kind of frustrating when you get home from work and there is a sign on your door stating the gas (so hot water) will be turned off and there's no ETA on when it will be back on. - The onsite laundry facility they boast about is disgusting!! I would find myself going to my parents on the weekend to do laundry. The machines are filthy and terribly outdated! The dryers usually need 2 cycles (and no I didn't overload it). The washers do not have a spot for bleach or for fabric softener either. They are just dirty machines. The office staff claims they were updated however, the only "update" I noticed was they painted the walls. - If you're not a smoker - you'll become a 2nd hand smoker!! The vents REEK of cigarette smoke from your neighbors! Also, any pungent cooking your neighbors do! - They brag about the size of their parking lot and how there is ample parking for everyone and guests!! That may be true - if you don't mind parking NO WHERE NEAR your apartment building. - The gym is a nice touch but the size of the gym compared to the size of the complex is severely disproportional. I understand and appreciate the gym is a "bonus" feature but then they shouldn't sell it has such an amazing add on. -The office hours are flexible based on when the staff want to leave or come in. I have gone in at 4:50 (when the office closes at 5) to find they are already gone. This has also happened on the weekend when they've opened a half hour later. This was not a one time occurrence on either account. -Just be very careful before believing all the hype before signing a lease!! You can get better apartments in the area for the same cost.
