Resident ā€¢ 2015

10/11/2015

I have lived here for a little under a year and will be moving closer to work. When I first got this apartment, it was because I couldn't afford the rent elsewhere and it was about ten minutes from my former job. I was admittedly extremely nervous about the reviews, because all of the bad reviews made it seem like a hellhole. Since moving here, I am relieved to say that it wasn't at all as bad as everyone says in the reviews. I think part of the issue is that people only review things when they're upset. As a frequent reviewer of various services, I thought I should chime in on this. I'll start with the cons, because it isn't perfect, but these are literally the only things I've noticed that I didn't like, and it's not really anybody's fault (except maybe parents)? The Cons: Teenagers. Teenagers everywhere. They like to loiter in halls or play in the parking lot, and there are a ton of them. This can be a little intimidating to come home to when there are some 20 odd teenagers in the parking lot screaming at each other. It happens rarely, but it does happen. I have never seen this lead to violence or crime, however. Parking is a little stressful sometimes. I think the apartment could improve things by placing stop signs at various "intersections" in the parking lot to make it a little safer. Until then, before you pull into your parking lot, make sure there isn't somebody cruising down the parking aisles. Occasionally neighbors can be noisy but I honestly have never lived in an apartment where that wasn't the case. The fire doors are a little weird, being that you have to pull open one door and push open another right after it, but eh. The Pros: At first I thought, because this is section 8 (and not my first time in a sec 8 property) that everything was going to be dirty and not well kept. I was wrong. I have lived in other properties that have had mice and roaches. This property does not have mice or roaches or really any critters. In fact, it's pretty damn clean. The yard looks great too. I'm also right by a water drain and we've had, what... 2-3 flash floods this year? I am happy to report we've never had flooding in the ground unit. The neighbors are actually really great when you actually take the time to talk to people. Everyone is friendly, and the community is pretty tight-knit. There are some small children who play in the yard and they are super cute and nice too. One kid had a penchant for giving my girlfriend flowers every time he saw her. (Well, dandelions, but they're flower-like, right?) The staff has been nothing but friendly to me. I am not sure where the complaints come from. I had to give an early vacate notice due to my work switching locations and was a little nervous that maybe I'd see this secret side of them that people have complained about on this review board, but they were still really friendly and made sure I had all the information I needed. I think it boils down to this: If you're respectful to them, they'll be respectful to you. Golden rule, right? Also one guy has a dachshund and it's really cute. >.>; There are a lot of community flyers that go out. Not a lot pertains to me because I'm not a parent, but if you are a parent with a school-aged kid, they do a lot of workshops and study halls together. If your kid isn't involved in other extra-curriculars, this sort of stuff could look really good, both on a resume and a college application. For religious folks, there's also a fellowship get-together sometimes. I'm not religious so again, it doesn't pertain to me, but they are really good at community events. There's also occasionally movie nights, and just kid-friendly, nice stuff going on around holidays and all of that. Maintenance is really streamlined and they are suuuper fast. I had a plumbing issue in my kitchen, and it took them one day to patch it up so the leaking would stop, and another day to completely replace all of the plumbing with new, working stuff. It's been great. Also, this is the only apartment I have ever lived in (no joke) where the dryers actually dry your clothes completely. Hooray!
