Resident 2014

12/4/2014

I currently live in Lafayette Square Apartments in one of the Garden View apartments. When I moved in, I was wowed by the size of the apartment for the price. It was only days later that I noticed the roaches. I'm not talking about one of two every few weeks. I'm talking about over a dozen roaches per day that I'm seeing. I reacted immediately and informed management. They came in and bombed the building. Later that day, my cats and I returned to the apartment, cleaned up the bombs, and found roaches again! I waited a week or so and the roach problem didn't go away. So I informed management again and spoke with my neighbors, who were having the same issues with roaches. So maintenance came back and bombed again. Again, the same thing happened. The roach problem continued, so I purchased sprays and traps and set them around in my apartment. I sprayed all the doorways, windows, creaks, and crevices. I kept the apartment spotless and bagged up all food and other perishable items. I still have problems with roaches. Maintenance has bombed the building three times since April 2014 and the roaches keep coming. Management will not pay for professional pest control either. After several months, my stove stopped working. I reported the broken stove and waiting a week. After a week of no new or fixed stove, I went back to management and asked if they were going to fix my stove. She said that maintenance was swamped and would fix my stove tomorrow. Two days later, I got a "new to me" stove. That stove didn't work either. I went back to maintenance and told them this. Four days later, I received a working stove. During this time, my roof was leaking on rainy days. In the utility closet, the leak was so severe that the floor flooded and soaked into the carpet. The leak also occurred in the bathroom but was much slower leak. Management was told about the leak twice. Each time maintenance said that the problem was on the roof but did not indicate that the roof had been or would be fixed. Finally, I went back into management and asked them to fix the leaking roof. I also informed them that the basement of the building flood. I told her that water flooded behind the circuitry boards in the basement and I believed this to be a fire hazard. I just went back into management today to pay rent and she did not indicate that any of the issues were fixed, nor did she express interest or concern for the issues. I noticed on the floor of the utility closet, black mold growing. I showed her a picture of this and she barely glanced and made no remark about the picture. I have called the city inspector, though I don't know how much good that will do. I am planning on moving when my lease is up if not before. I hope that this review helps someone make an informed decision about moving into these apartments. I generally don't have any issues with neighbors but the garbage dumpster outside of my apartment is often overflowing and trash bags are littered all over the ground. The complex is not clean and the apartments are not clean or safe. The management does not seem interested in fixing the issues and maintenance is even more disinterested.
