Resident 2012 - 2013

7/5/2013

IT'S A TRAP! This apartment complex has been nothing short of an inconvenience. To begin, the complex advertises that they provide free internet. This is a farce. There is internet, but in the form of public wifi access. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that there is only one router per building. This means that bandwidth usage is maximal during the school year, and inherently, the internet speed is either begrudgingly slow or not functional at all. Any other service has to be paid for through Comcast/Xfinity. My second complaint is with the appliances and amenities. The refrigerator, stove/oven, washer/dryer, dishwasher, AC/heating, are all EXTREMELY outdated in these units, and by association are EXTREMELY inefficient. All appliances are electric, so get ready for some hefty Duke Energy bills, especially in the winter months. I have had to contact maintenance multiple times to come fix leaks and malfunctions in the appliances. The A/C will not work in the summer, and the heat will not work in the winter. The dishwasher will leak, the dryer will not dry your clothes, and the oven/stove will turn your entire unit into the likes of the appliance itself. I would strongly recommend purchasing a quality fan. It might actually save your life. Additionally, the fan in the bathroom does not ventilate moist air from the shower and as a result, there are some pretty sturdy mildew stains on the walls and ceilings that were there before I ever began renting here. This will not change. No matter how much shower cleaning/mold killing spray you use. Your efforts are futile. If you don't like your neighbors, or partying, or any kind of noise that is not being made by you, then run away from here as fast as possible. I can clearly make out music that is being played at the other end of the complex from my bathroom (the most interior room in the unit). My upstairs neighbors had no respect for anybody and created a few nice trash/vomit piles on my front doorstep. They also were very fond of 2chainz (a rap artist for whom I have very little respect). They like him so much that they would play it at max volume ALL NIGHT LONG! Formally complaining about it didn't get me very far though and actually resulted in a few scary confrontations with the upstairs neighbors. My last complaint is with maintenance. There are two guys who are paid hourly to fix a lot of problems. I can't necessarily blame them, because it seems like they work very hard, but they are absolutely horrible about fixing a problem when they say that they will. I recently discovered a nice crop of black mold growing in my kitchen as a result of a previously frozen A/C line that had not been repaired. The result was a lot of moisture in the drywall. Mix that with a muggy, rainy summer with highs in the 80's and you get some very interesting looking molds growing. I'm writing this review two days after this was supposed to be repaired, but alas, I still have my microbiological friend hanging out to dry on my kitchen wall. I have had it looked at by a professional and it turns out to be a nontoxic variety of black mold, but still... who wants to live in these conditions?! Nobody! That's who. With this, I would absolutely NOT recommend this apartment complex to anyone that I like. I would honestly tell someone to live in Stadium Crossing (formerly the infamous Varsity Villas) before telling them to live here.
