Scholar's Quad Collegiate Apartments
Resident • 2004 - 2006 Not Recommended
I have lived in Scholars Quad for two years, in a two-bedroom apartment, with a roommate. We pay $900 total per month, plus utilities, cable, and internet. Although we are closer to campus than other complexes, I feel that we pay more than we should. Yes, the apartments look nice and are taken care of, but one of the major drawbacks I found was how amazingly thin the walls are. We lived on the first floor, and every time to toilet was flushed in the apartment above us it sounded like a waterfall was about to crash into our apartment. I could hear every conversation (clearly) my next-door neighbor had - to the point where I was following the fights she had with her boyfriend (I also heard a lot between them that I didn't need to hear so clearly).

My roommate and I are graduate students, and the population at Scholars Quad is mostly undergraduates. Again, due to the thin walls, we could hear everyone's music (even if it wasn't loud at all!)

The apartments are also rather small for the price. It's nice to have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, but I can only comfortably fit a dresser, a desk, and a twin bed in my room.

I don't mean to sound very cranky - the apartments *are* nice-looking, and I liked the big open kitchen, and the washer and dryer in the apartment. The closets in the bedrooms have nice shelves for easy organization, but other than that, there is very little closet space in the apartment. Utilities were never too expensive, but I think that due to the extremely high rent, more should be included, like free wireless internet at least.

The staff were always nice, although at times not very accessible - office hours were somewhat sporadic.

There are a LOT of great, affordable places to live in Bloomington: I suggest you shop around, do your research, and live elsewhere.
