Resident 2015 - 2017

5/17/2017

When we moved in to our 1BR/1BA apartment in 2015 we had next to no complaints. The office staff at the time (Ashley and Sonya) were extremely helpful, nice, and generally pleasant to work with. The apartment was somewhat dated, but still pretty nice at the price point ($575 at the time). The carpet in our specific unit had a faint smell of cat urine in a couple corners and was generally worn, but overall it was nothing we couldn't mask. Our refrigerator at the time had a minor problem with it and the staff went out of their way to replace the entire refrigerator, which was nice. Not long after we moved in our hot water heat stopped working due to some minor, fixable problem and like the refrigerator they replaced the entire unit. We had an upstairs unit and the noise was nearly non-existent from inside the apartment. The complex is generally safe and in a good area. The grounds are kept up with new mulch every spring. I'll try to not sound like the disgruntled tenant here, but the quality and our opinion of Ashley Pointe has definitely gone down greatly since the first year. First of all, our rent has increased every year (we renewed twice) from $575/mo to our current rate of $755/mo with no major improvements to go with it. Nothing is included with the apartment: gas/electric, cable/internet, and water/sewer/trash (through a 3rd party company) are all billed separately. Speaking of utilities, the insulation and weather sealing in this apartment is HORRIBLE. I haven't seen the insulation, but I can't imagine there's any to speak of. Our sliding patio door has gaps at the top and bottom which go straight from the inside to outside (no screen or weather stripping or anything) that are literally large enough to fit two standard sized packs of gum through. We also discovered a gap between the baseboard and the carpet which was open THROUGH THE BRICK to the outside. I put my head on the carpet and could see light through this gap. As you can imagine our utility bills are ridiculous for a 1BR apartment. We complained to maintenance about that and our faulty screen door. They didn't do anything with the large gaps and replaced the screen door with one that they didn't bother to install correctly. The new screen door was installed with a 3-4 inch gap at the top with no gap at the bottom - naturally it didn't slide open correctly and was essentially useless. They seem to do maintenance on a water line about every week, requiring all water to the entire complex to be shut off for two hours during the day with the only notice being a flyer shoved in the door knocker sometime late at night after we were already home (as a 2nd shift worker, an extreme inconvenience when trying to get ready for work). Sometime in the past year or so Ashley and Sonya left and they were replaced by Kurtis. Unlike Ashley and Sonya, Kurtis is unhelpful and clearly uncaring. When breaking our lease early (due to finding a house) I went into the leasing office to drop off a check for our lease-break fee of 2 months' rent (oh yeah, we found out they snuck that increase in our new lease without any notification - the original fee was only 1 months' rent). Kurtis was in the office on the phone and acknowledged my presence, so I sat down and waited. Kurtis continued his clearly personal phone conversation for at least THIRTY-FIVE MINUTES before I had had enough and walked out. You'd think a check for an extra $1500 would be something that interested him enough to call his friend back, but I guess not. And finally, with the last months' rent they failed to prorate it on my account. I went to the office to complain to the new assistant (a male, don't remember his name) about it and he said since he was new he would notify Kurtis to call me when he gets back to the office. He took my name and phone number and I never got a call. I had to return to the office the next day to get it fixed. Just poor service from the new staff in general. Had you asked me to recommend Ashley Pointe the first year we lived there I absolutely would have. Since then there's no way I can recommend it. You can do much, much better for the price you pay here.
