Resident 2009 - 2010

7/7/2010

I've lived here for over a year and am very happy. The building is charming and old-fashioned - antique doorknobs, 50's style metal/ceramic countertops, (some) old light switches, curved rooms and ceilings, and a buzzer-style doorbell. I have a marble floor throughout, although I've seen many with carpeting. The landlord and maintenance man are both very friendly and have addressed any problems I've had within the same day. I've had no problems with the building itself that I haven't encountered living in another apartment or house. If you're a decent person and pay your rent they stay out of your way. The building is solid and therefore, very quiet. You're basically living in a concrete block and I feel very safe during storms. I have two huge closets for a relatively small one bedroom. I do wish I had a dishwasher and washer/dryer (the building was built before either of these existed, so no hook-ups). The kitchen is fairly small but has plenty of storage and is cute. The windows are big and the apartment gets a lot of light. The neighbors are all very friendly and a fair amount of kids and young people live here. The water pressure and utilities are not perfect, but ok for as old as the place is. The highest I've paid in the middle of summer or winter is $135, and it's gotten as low as $50. You don't pay for water. I pay extra for pet rent, a parking space, and a storage locker in the basement and it's totally worth it. This building may be a bit shabbier than some people are used to living in, but the price is right and it beats living in a new but poorly built apartment building with paper thin walls and outrageous fees.
