Woodland Park Apartments

I lived here as a small child (in the first grade) with my parents when they got out of the Air Force in 1993. We moved to Evansville and from what my mom told me about this place, it was all they could afford at the time. As a kid, being preoccupied with dolls and playing and doing anything "fun," I didn't mind the weird smells in the hallway. In fact, I've smelled that strange scent a few other times in my life and I actually had the pleasant memory of living here. You know, where the neighbors above would play very loud music and complaints to office staff went unaddressed. My mom actually used to stand on the dining room chair with a broom and pound it into the ceiling. Being only 6 years old, I didn't realize that the man who came to our door in the middle of the night was asking for drug money. And the following night when the neighbor from upstairs wandered down demanding to know why my parents wanted the music shut off so my toddler sister could sleep. I didn't yet understand the dangers of bouncing a basketball in the parking lot where I saw all the other (albeit WILD) children playing. I loved going to my grandparent's house each weekend, but never understood why my mom said it was because it was too scary to do our laundry at the apartment complex. I believe living here was one of the first times I'd heard my parents refer to another grown up lady an apartment office as a "-----." I also didn't understand why we moved out of this place as soon as my parents found somewhere else (a house) they could afford as quickly as possible. Ah, Woodland Park.. great times.
