Resident 2008 - 2009

Big Dorm - Avoid!

Gee, some things never change. As Anonymous said back in 2007, "My upstairs neighbors are never home, except when they come stumbling in at like 2 in the morning like a herd of elephants. They keep me up, but you never know when it will happen. Unfortunately, usually on the weekdays." "Parking can be a hassle. I was swarmed by ants, and it took them a week and a half to spray, so I had to actually LEAVE my apartment. Also, the lights lately have not been turning on early enough, and at like 8 it is dark and I have a hard time getting out my keys and getting into my apartment because they are too cheap to turn on the lights... " Here it is, 2009 and my complaint is identical. Upstairs "neighbor" comes crashing in at 1AM on weeknights and starts slam dancing with his posse (10 people) (over my head!) until 5AM. I, and others, knocked on Upstairs "neighbor"'s door and asked him to turn the music down. Yep, for 15 minutes. Called management about loud Upstairs "neighbor". Other tenants next to Upstairs "neighbor" called management, too, again, and again, and again.. Upstairs "neighbor" is not impressed. The music plays loudly on..... When the party's on, parking lot is filled. We got swarmed by ants in the summer. They spray and the ants go away for a few weeks, then they come back. Outside street lights and lights in the stair wells only work about 50~75% of the time. It appears the common electrical system in this complex is in serious need of repair. Do you see a pattern here??? Unless you are 18-24 and sleep during the day and party hard all night, and don't have / need a job... STAY AWAY, especially the buildings on Vantage Point Drive. BAD NEWS....GO ELSEWHERE!!!!! LOUD OBNOXIOUS NEIGHBOR WARNING!!!!!! ************************* Mundane details... Bath and kitchen countertops made of cheap material and scratch / discolor easily. Appliances are the most basic you could get (no timer, door window, or oven light on the gas stove, dishwasher has one setting...ON, refrigerator is smallish (but frost free!)). Construction is tight, though, no drafts. Gas, water/sewer and trash is included in the rent. Gas forced air heat. Hot water comes from a central boiler, one per building. Maintenance was on the ball. Critical items (water leaks, broken appliances) fixed same day. Cosmetic items (like trim on the stove or refrigerator) usually done within a week. Landscaping is nice. The stormwater retention ponds have illuminated fountains in them and have been landscaped. The herds of geese are cute to look at until you see all the poop all over the sidewalks, parking lots, grass, etc. Former property manger got the OK from the game warden to do stuff to chase the geese off. Seems to be working.... Pool is good. When the weather is hot, it is used. The owners supply pool side chairs and tables, so you don't need to bring your own. Physical property is good. Proximity to the two hospitals (Dupont and Parkview North) is a plus if you are a nurse or medical technician working there. Literally right off of Interstate 69 (exit 116). Sound barrier knocks down highway noise to a tolerable level.
