Resident 2011 - 2012

3/23/2012

Good news first or bad?

Ok, I'll start with the good news. First, I love the area we are in within the city. We are close to grocery stores and gas stations, but when you are inside the complex, it feels like you are in the country because of the trees. We moved here because it feels very safe. The inside of the model apartments are nice. The office staff was really nice, but all of the people that we knew who worked here left. We resigned our lease because it's FAIRLY affordable for us not wanting to move out of this safe of an area. The walk in closets are very nice. NOW THE BAD NEWS: I hate my neighbors. The girl downstairs has two little yappy dogs who wake up my baby all the time. We've had about 6 neighbors in and out in the last year and they are all noisy in some way. They show you a model that is SUPER nice, and when you move in, the cabinets are covered in wood pattern laminate that is peeling off. The border around the bottom of the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom is only stuck on with a strip of caulking and we had to glue it up ourselves because it always falls down. The washer and dryer are small, granted I'm greatful to have one in my apartment. The tack strips in the floor to keep the carpet in stick up and we always poke our feet on them, the balcony screen door doesn't shut all the way because it's crooked and there are little holes in it that bees crawl through. When we asked them to come fix those last two things, they took a hammer to the screen door, and it worked for like a day, and the tack strip they didn't do anything to. Our windowsill was broken when we moved in. They paint OVER AND OVER AND OVER each layer, and it chips off and makes all the doors stick, the same thing with the balcony, there is chips of paint falling off all over all the time so we repainted it. There are these annoying trees in front of almost all of the balconies, which attract A LOTTT of bees. The people at the office tried to convince me that these bees won't sting you. I don't buy that. The people that live in the building across from us park in the spots in front of my apartment all the time, even when they have spots open, so I have to carry the groceries and car seat about a half a block all the time. When you call the "courtesy officer" with a problem about anything, they NEVER answer, and you leave a message and they NEVER EVER EVER call back. People who don't live here don't have guest parking so there is never any spots to park. They are not strict about courtesy hours making sure people aren't hanging out at the pavilions being loud at 2 in the morning. Which happens all of the time in the summer. We've had to call the cops once on a "peeping tom." The building we live in is right by the pool so it's always loud in the summer. If we could get out of this lease and move to the place we are planning to move when our lease ends now, we would in a heartbeat. They are ok apartments, but I'd rather not deal with this again. Not to mention to upgrade to a two bedroom, we'd be paying what we can get a three bedroom for at other MORE NICE places we've looked. Overall, if you can get an apartment in the back, away from the noise, and out of the way of the trees, with more updates inside I would recommend it. But this apartment that we have, I would not.
