Resident 2013 - 2015

8/3/2015

I have lived here for two and a half years and I am fed up with the place. When I first applied I said I could not have stairs or steps because I am handicapped and stairs and steps are impossible for me to navigate. After signing my lease the woman finally showed me my new apartment. The entry had two steps to navigate and no hand rail to hang on to. I asked for a handicapped ramped to make it to my apartment and was told that I had to buy one myself. Filed a grievance with the ADA (American's with Disabilities Act); got a handicapped ramp (poorly installed by just laying on the ground) by the first of July. Since it was incorrectly installed it was stolen for the aluminum in it and the apartments remedy was a wafer board home made ramp granted a lot sturdier than that aluminum one but still just as poorly installed. Management is a joke in the time i have lived here there have been at least five managers that I know of (I may have missed one or two interim managers in there). They charge late fees upon late fees and when you think you have made arrangements with the management staff for repayment and to stop the accrual of the fees it continues next thing is you get a court summons to be evicted because you owe the apartments over a thousand dollars. Most of the time (unless you are really aware that you were late) you don't even know it or get told you have this much in late fees until the court summons. The first time they did this was my first year; I was paying my rent through banking on line however I did not know they checks the bank was sending didn't arrive on time. So the apartments started charging me late fees. It actually was six months later (in January after the blizzard we had) that the manager made a trip to my apartment to tell me I was being evicted. After his visit it took four months working with him and the main office in Minnesota to correct the problem. I have been on time until this past April when I was off work due to illness and didn't get paid. Called and allegedly talked to the manager who was willing to work with me so I could stay in the apartment and get caught up once I returned to work. I paid my usual rent for May and paid 300 in addition to what should have been April's rent. I have just found out that they still have me nearly 900+ dollars in arrears die to the late fees from April accruing late fees. Maintenance is a joke as well or the office staff one. I have been living with a hole in my bathroom wall for over a year and have done without air conditioning almost a year. Always get the excuse with the air conditioner it was either not hot enough to be fixed, it was fall and didn't need to be fixed, when spring rolled around this year "your late on your rent, this last time you didn't leave us keys to fix it. Why do I need to leave the apartment maintenance people a key to my apartment? No one ever showed up for the hole in the wall (that they put there repairing the upstairs landing last summer). In the meantime; this summer has been awful. Didn't have power for nearly a week when we had a bad storm two weeks ago, When I called the office the first time "oh yes you have power" no I didn't Called again oh there is something wrong with the junction box outside it maybe another few days; once it stops raining (it hadn't rained for the two days prior to this). They just now cleaned up the limbs and trees that were knocked down by that storm, and I still have no air conditioner. Between the latest fee table and the fact they can't seem to keep track of their "work orders" I am in the process of looking for someplace new to live. I am to the point today that if I knew I could find and move by the 15th of August I would not pay my August rent and then fight them in court because they do not deserve the entire month nor do they deserve the late fees they charge.
