I live at the 658 E. 11th Building. My rent is $530 for a 2br/1ba 650 sg ft no fringes apartment. I lived her for 2 years and I have put in notice. I'm moving to an apartment community that offer more amenities although rent will be higher. PROS: the building is quiet and safe, offers free gated parking and there has been no bad incidences since I've been here or any packages go missing, So, I think Van Rooy must have moved out the unpleasant crowd. Maintenance responds quickly but may not fix the problem. CONS: the hallways are terribly narrow and cannot accommodate big pieces of furniture that cannot be easily manipulated such as a 3 seater couch or large sectional. The building is old and there are numerous cracks in the wall and gaps between the wall and the ceiling. I lived here for 2 years and out of the 11 windows in my apartment, only 3 could open and stay open. van Rooy recently updated the windows though. I have an open kitchen to living room plan. My fridge leaks sometimes, the cabinets are few, given there is no pantry and there is no dishwasher. There is a ugly door right by my tv stand, where the water heater is located. The bathroom is pretty old as well and I had to thoroughly scrub the grimy toilet when I moved in. The sealant on the bathtub walls wear off after two showers, despite a do over by maintenance. Van Rooy did not replace the carpets when i moved in, but did a poor wash & the carpet stains easily. The first time I vacuumed there was so much dirt and I was thoroughly disgusted. So, ASK for a NEW CARPET. You can hear the traffic on collage ave or on I-65 and the worst is the train sounds early in the morning or late at night. Also, you pay for gas and electric. Citizens gas is a total rip off, so be aware. I have paid $60 or more in heating costs, despite having my thermostat set at 66, while my friend pays the same amount and she lives in a three levels town home Laundry is in the basement, so hauling laundry up and down stairs becomes annoying pretty quickly. If you are looking for something cheap, this is it. The apartment has a musty old smell, despite open windows. Whenever I have people over, I have to light scent candles. However, that will be changing. As Van Rooy leasing office indicated that newly vacated apartments will be upgraded and rent will be $650 for new tenants. The apartment seemed convenient at first, but I'm so ready to move to a place that has a dishwasher, washer/dryer and clubhouse with a pool :)
