Resident ā€¢ 2013 - 2016

3/15/2016

I moved to GQ a while ago for the proximity to work and school, as there are no other remotely clean apartment complexes on the south side of town. Before I moved in, I was shown a nicer apartment and asked many times to see the apartment I would be moving into, but was shot down. I didn't get to see the place until I was moving in, and it is NOT like the apartment they showed me. One of the neighbors keeps a strong air freshener in the hallway because it smells very bad of dog pee, but not as bad as the halls of the other buildings we toured. People walk their dogs and there is poop EVERYWHERE. Do not ever walk in the grass. There is always trash all over the ground. My neighbors throw raging parties most days of the week, and the walls are paper thin. So thin that I can hear everyones conversations and TV. Mold is a serious problem because the windows are not sealed well, and I have to scrub black mold off with bleach very often. When I moved in, the a door was locked and they had not given me any keys. I called to ask for them and was told they'd send maintenance over to change the lock. Maintenance arrived a few weeks later, knocked on the door once, and practically sprinted away before I could answer. I called again, they arrived months later and changed the lock. The screen door has been torn all the way along the bottom since I moved in and requires a lot of force to open and close. All of the cream colored tiles in the bathroom are discolored and warped. The vents are bent, flaking, and rusting. There are large carpet tacks that will stab you if you step along the edge of the carpet to close the patio door or anything else. All of the paint around the shower is flaking badly. They claim the gym and hot tub as their amenities for all guests, but come to find out, those things are located up the road at Cobblestone, and they want you to pay an extra $20 a month to use it. During the summer, the pool is absolutely overrun with people that don't live here. I noticed in the lease that you will never get your full deposit back because they take a minimum $100 dollars out to clean the carpets when you leave, but it doesn't make a difference because I moved into burned/stained carpet anyway. I wish I had stayed in my ultra clean, nice, quiet VQ apartment on the east side of town, and my rent there was $200 less than what it is here for the same size place. The rent here is through the roof for the area, and the utilities are super high as well. This company only acts the way they do because they have a monopoly on this area, one day that won't be the case. If you're looking for a place to shower, sleep, and store your stuff, this might work out. If you're looking for peace and quiet, a nice place, a pretty place, or a home, this is not for you. Also, if you do move here, don't have nice wheels on your car or it will end up on blocks, stolen wheels are really common here.
