Resident 2015

9/27/2015

(continued from previous review) So then they sent out an email informing residents the manager was no longer at Blackbird Farms. I went into the office to ask the new manager about my outstanding maintenance requests and was told they knew it was a problem and fired the maintenance guy. After doing some more digging, I found out they actually just moved the manager to another W.H. Long Property and moved their manager here. They said they like to "rotate people around to keep things fresh." So when you go in to inquire and mention this review, they can say "oh, that was our old manager" or "oh that was our old maintenance person" when really nothing has changed. The new manager is a horrible miserable woman, who loves to say no. I had already informed the office I was not planning to stay. One day I call to ask about an outstanding maintenance request going on over a month, and this lady instead proceeds to angrily tell me that I failed to not-renew and would be staying at Blackbird Farms indefinitely. The next day I received the renewal notice in the mail which was dated incorrectly relative to my move-out date. Because the error was on their part, I was told I could leave freely. Somewhere, this woman has a dungeon full of tenants who "failed to not-renew" that she consumes when she is hungry. One of the friendlier perks of dealing with Blackbird Farms is that they offer a moving truck and storage unit for you to use. Before I gave them any money, I was told the truck was able to be used by tenants for free, except for a $0.50/mi charge to cover gas, with NO STRINGS ATTACHED. It was a good sell. Once I signed the lease and needed to use the truck, I was told only one location on the other side of town had a truck, and they would not move it. Ok, fine, I can drive an hour out of the way on a moving day for a free truck. So I reserve the truck, as well as paid movers. The day comes and I show up for the truck. The lady behind the counter proceeds to give me a list of things I have done wrong and explains why I will not be using their truck. They only let the truck out during business hours. If it is not returned by close, they call the police and report it stolen. On a Saturday at this location close happened to be the middle of the afternoon. At no time was I informed of this, although she did make sure to say "yeah this truck is basically just a marketing thing." Luckily, a Budget in town had a truck available on same-day notice. Later, I wanted to use the truck again to move something from Chicago to the storage unit here, and I was told the size of the storage unit affects how long they let the truck out. So I was told I could only ever use the truck a max of 3 hours (about an hour short of what I needed) with no flexibility. Then when it came time to move out, I was told the truck was only available one time when you move in, which is absolutely not what they sold me on. Their attitude was that of disbelief that I would want to use their truck. After arguing with them I was told I could use the truck "this ONE TIME" so I went over to another storage location as far away as possible to get the truck. I open the door and am hit with wet dog and hillbilly sweat. Their little mangy dog starts barking furiously (yes, they bring it to work) so loud it is difficult to converse. They proceed to tell me that the truck isn't ready and they need to go fill it up with gas. This literally took 45 minutes with a gas station next door. They probably know another hillbilly out of town who refines his own petrol so they can get a deal. Their attitude was as if they were surprised I actually showed up. So after a nominal 45 minute delay on moving day I was off and running with no air conditioning. Once my things were loaded into the truck, it started raining, and water began flowing into the back of the truck through the roof and onto my mattress and box spring. We had to stuff blankets into the roof to keep it from completely ruining my things. When I returned the truck, she returned my deposit, and we went our separate ways. When I got home, I realized that among 5 different key rings I had that day, I had forgot to return the key to the truck. When I attempted to call them and let them know, their voicemail did not work. A week later this lady calls me fuming about not having the key. She said they showed up to repair the leak and she didn't have a key. Additionally, she told me this situation was completely and entirely my fault, and I should take time out of my busy schedule to drive 30 min one-way to return the key RIGHT NOW she had failed to notice was missing for a week. Maybe if she wasn't busy petting her dog, she would have noticed the key was gone. Perhaps the most disgusting evidence surfaced while I left the unit unoccupied for 10 days. The air conditioning was on, and the place was clean. When I returned after 10 days, there were cobwebs so bad you'd think it was sitting for years. Inside the fridge and freezer, was a BLANKET of dead sewer flies. The toilets were full of little black worms. I did some googling and apparently they eat sewer fly larvae. It got this bad because I wasn't there every day, airing the place out because of the horrible smell backing up from all the drains and dryer exhaust. Also, my screen door came off the track 3 months ago and it still hasn't been fixed. In conclusion, don't deal with Blackbird Farms or W.H. Long. Just don't do it. They are a horrible stupid company and you will regret it.
