Resident 2013 Not Recommended

My husband and I have lived here for about 4 months. The apartment itself isn't bad but the landlady really sucks. We have several neighbors with dogs and we really wanted one so we got one. One day I saw our dog staring out the back door so I looked and the landlady was just standing out there looking in our apartment. We had her for a week by then and had her spayed and got all her shots before we called about it. She told my husband that we couldn't keep her because we have new carpet. So basically she's saying that the other tenants have crappy carpet and therefore can have a dog. When/if they replace their carpet will the have to get rid of their pet? Our lease says we need written permission and lists the weight requirement (which she falls into) and gives the pet deposit price of $285. We are completely prepared to pay that. Our dog is housebroken, never barks, is spayed, and has all her shots. Landlady put a note on our door charging us $150 for violation and gave us 2 days to get rid of her. Meanwhile our neighbors are walking around with theirs. She was really rude about too. We never had any problems and rent is always on time as it's automatically taken out every month. We've also heard that she is a real pain about giving the deposit back. I guess we'll find out soon.
