Resident 2010 - 2011

6/19/2011

My boyfriend and I only lived here for a year. We always paid our rent on time, kept quiet for our neighbors, didn't park in spots that WEREN'T PARKING SPOTS (here's lookin' at you, ------ bags), informed the office about any issues that came up (slow drains, garbage disposal just...dying one day), and were basically ideal tenants. The apartment was okay. Creaky floors, sirens going off 24/7 (ambulances, cops, fire trucks, and I have a feeling everyone else in the complex doesn't know how to shut off their car alarms), the one bedrooms are definitely too small for two people, the rat-infested laundry facility is $1.75 for basically half a load of laundry - and &1.75 for a SET time of around 45 minutes to dry (if you decide to live here, go to the Candlewood shopping area to do your laundry - so much cheaper/faster and they have a huge TV and arcade games), a single window that was much too small, there is never enough hot water when you want to take a shower, the front door is a SLIDING GLASS DOOR with blinds that fall off and break all of the time, and we had a ridiculously tiny kitchen - so small that I couldn't open my refrigerator all the way. So that was freakin' super. But Park Place does has some up sides. It's a decent location - far away enough from Aggieville that you don't want to kill yourself, but close enough that you can walk to campus in under 30 minutes, the office ladies are nice except they always seem like they want to be left alone and get you out of there as fast as possible lol, and it's very affordable for a place that doesn't look like a crack house. Now, I do have beef with this place. The entire time we were here, we hardly had any problems - save for like, three at most. And they were very petty issues that we probably could have continued on without fixing. But we told the office anyway so they wouldn't turn into bigger problems. Anyway, as we're approaching our move-out date, things went so wrong. They start doing lots of inspections to make sure it's in good, move-out condition. But there was an instance about a week ago where the maintenance guys came in to spray around the windows and doors for bugs or something like that, and that was the ONLY TIME I was ever not home while they came in. My schedule at K-state allowed me to be home whenever they came in (the guys are pretty lazy from what I gather, so it was never before 2 in the afternoon) which was good for my boyfriend and I because we're pretty paranoid people. Anyway, this ONCE, I let it go because I had a lot of errands to run that day, and what do you know...things are...broken. For one, the lock on the front (I'll say it again - SLIDING GLASS) door started acting funny. We have worked out a system to get it locked quickly again, but honestly, we thought it was just going to stay broken and put our safety and property in jeopardy. For another thing, the toilet wont flush anymore unless you hold down the handle. It acts like it's going to, but unless you hold it down for a few seconds, it just doesn't work. Dumb. And lastly, the garbage disposal started leaking out of a hole that looks like it's supposed to be there. But why would a garbage disposal have a hole in it? Your answer is as good as mine. I kept plastic bags underneath the sink because I reuse them for other things and I would have known if the disposal was leaking at all. And it wasn't. Until the day that things all went wrong at the same time. Is this some crazy coincidence? Perhaps. But I doubt it. I think we were too perfect, and they felt like they needed to milk us of some of our security deposit. Well they can ---- right off, because we cleaned this apartment better than it was when we moved in. "Clean all vents and baseboards" - right, that NEVER happened before we were here. It actually looks like there's dust UNDER the paint on the vents. Disgusting. But this place is spotless now (YOU'RE WELCOME, PARK PLACE) and I'm going to throw a ----- fit if we don't get back the majority of our deposit. I was going to rate this place as fantastic, five stars, and point out that the bad points are actually quite tolerable, but I couldn't possibly after this past week.
