Resident 2019

5/21/2019

In short: this place has BED BUGS! Full story: I moved into a 2bd apartment on August 1, 2018. I signed a lease with them after having issues at my previous apartment with a pest infestation. Kinyata, one of the managers here, was very helpful and even gave me advice on how to appropriately sue my previous company. In the middle of August, I was randomly matched to have someone live with me. She is now my best friend. Overall, the district was fine, we received noise complaints about our dogs barking, but no real issues. Cut to March 2019. We had started getting bit by something while we were sleeping and then we found tiny little bugs. We called the office to see what could be done and was told "your problem." So, we called an exterminator who came out and confirmed bed bugs. He quoted us $1700 to heat the apartment, but warned us that it wouldn't solve the problem because every touching unit would have to be treated. We did follow his other advice: throw away beds and any and all furniture, then wash everything fabric on HIGH HIGH heat for 1 hour or more, and vacuum daily. So, we did all of it. Destroying our clothes in the process. Spending 200$ on laundry. Buying air mattresses so we don't have to sleep on the floor. Putting our clothes in plastic tubes in the living room so the bugs don't get back on them. This protocol held them at bay until April 2019, when they came back with revenge. At this point, we reached out to the office again. They again said "your problem" but after further pushing they told us that we signed a 'bed bug' addendum, which supposedly made us liable for the bugs. However, when we asked for them to show us where we signed it, they couldn't produce it. We asked to see a blank one, and even that took hours to find. Because of this, they knew they had to treat our apartment. So they did, chemically. Which is the cheap and inefficient way out. They then asked us to sign the addendum (because if they came back, we would be liable!!) and we refused. We are now dealing with them again, the chemical treatment did nothing!! In speaking with another pest control company, they confirmed that multiple units in our building are affected and that the complex has a problem in general. We also found out that chase place (which is what it used to be named) had MANY complaints about bed bugs. We went to the office to speak with them again, and the new manager was not made aware of the situation. We filled her in and she told us that "it's gross" that we are still dealing with them and that "chemically treating would do nothing, the apartments and all surrounding would need to be heat treated." We left feeling like something may come from it. But arrived the next day to be shut down, being told her superiors said "they handled it and the bugs are gone." Which they are not, as seen by the continual bites on our skin. All we are asking is that we be compensated for the months we have had to live with them or to let us out of our lease a few months early, but they are insisting we brought them onto ourselves and that they are our fault. We have had to throw thousands of dollars worth of clothes, shoes, couches, mattresses, box springs, and curtains away. But they refuse to see that. They refuse to understand that we are sleeping on air mattresses, being kept awake because we are fearful of being bit. So, do not move here unless you love blood sucking bed bugs. Or if you love wasting money on things to have to throw them away. Or if you love never feeling like you are at home because you have no furniture. Or if you love blowing an air mattress up at 3 am because it has popped yet another hole because they are not meant for daily use. And if you love being a victim of crappy landlords, then this is the place for yo

We are sorry that you feel we fell short of your expectations. When you came to inquire about an apartment you told our office you were already in suit with your apartment community seeking to get out and our team was helping you apply for a new apartment. When our office was first notified on 4/11, we had a 3rd party exterminator out on 4/12 for a courtesy treatment. On 4/11, we were also told you had the apartment previously treated by another company who advised you to throw away your personal belongings. Unfortunately, we were not contacted in time to help assist you and provide information that would have allowed you to keep those things. We have had the apartment reinspected and nothing has been found. We were communicating via email and to date, our office has not received a response from you or your roommate until this review. Our team has spoken with the "other company" you are alleging provided you with information which they stated is absolutely not true. We have and will continue our general pest control maintenance service offered monthly to our residents. We do not have any other complaints from residents regarding pests. We are sorry you are upset that we will not release you from your lease agreement as we have taken the proper steps to resolve this issue. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss more, please reach out to us in the Leasing Office.
