My fianc and I have been apartments hunting for the past 6 months. We finally decided on Millcreek and were very excited about it. We have never rented from anyone and have always believed in paying in cash, therefore we have no credit. We informed the leasing agent of this when we came into to apply, and we asked specifically if it was going to be a problem. She said, "absolutely not". Several days later we get a call from the leasing agent saying that we have been approved, "yay! celebrate! So, anytime you want to come in between now and your move-in date to sign your lease and pay the $365 deposit you can". Keep in mind, we had already payed for our applications and put in our $225 deposit. Paying the additional deposit is understandable considering we have no credit or any previous rental history, however I was terribly disappointed in the leasing agent for not informing us of the additional deposit even being a possibility and not being honest when we asked if having no credit or prior history would be a problem. However, we would not have payed $50 to have our applications run when we knew exactly what was going to come back if we had known about this additional deposit. After this incident, I went to speak with the manager who talked to me like I was stupid. I may be young but I understand the concept of being financially qualified and credit history. I have done my research. Needless to say, my experience with Millcreek was less than acceptable. If they are willing to scam you before you even move in, then are they really going to take care of you when are a resident? My answer to that was no. We did get our $225 deposit back, however they refused to refund us the $50 application fee even though it really only costs $10-$15 to run a credit check (Just so you all know) and we wouldn't have even applied if their leasing agent was forth-right from the beginning.
