Resident • 2006 Not Recommended
I applied for an apartment, was initially denied but negotiated an approval by agreeing to pay a larger than standard ($99.00) security deposit. I paid $250.00 for unit expected to be available beginning of the next month. In contrast to the "MODEL" apartment I was shown on my first visit to the property, the unit was heavily perfumed, indicative to me of masking odor, had chips and cuts all over the kitchen counters, scale and filth in the bath, and the carpet was poorly vacuumed at best. I mentioned the stains on the carpet and was told it would be "noted." I requested a refund which was refused according to the credit application "3 day" stipulation of:<br>"Additionally, any security deposit(s) included with this application are non-refundable and will be retained by the Landlord after a period of 3 days from the date of application."<br>I would also question legal definition of "security deposit"; is it not to protect property owners from damages caused by tenant?... in which case, I never even took occupancy. In effect, Heatherwood's refusal to reimburse my security deposit is blatant robbery.<br>The preceding only my personal experience... does not even address the fact that frequent visits by police, fire trucks, and ambulances cause nearly all the noise and disruption in this otherwise lovely neighborhood.
