Resident 2009 - 2011

5/2/2011

Overall, we have really enjoyed living here at The Highlands. We were lucky to get an extremely great deal for a random Columbus Day special. The management staff never stopped being friendly or helpful and their maintenance staff were always prompt with us. They either took care of our requests the same day we reported it or within 24 hours. During our whole year and a half living here, we have seen only three bugs, MAX, which I seriously appreciate. They take a lot of pride in how the community looks and have been planting a lot of trees all over the complex ever since we moved in. They recently painted the outside of the buildings and the carports and frequently power wash the windows/sidewalks/entryways, although an exceptionally rude neighbor always hurls our welcome mat down the hall whenever they spray wash our shared entry way. Quite a few residents act pretty douchey for absolutely no reason. I'll agree with one person that said that some people do tend to treat these apartments as if they are living in a trailer park. Residents in a nearby building frequently let their children play in the parking lot all hours of the night and use the sidewalk as their own person patio. They set up tents and habachi grills in front of the shared stairs, obstructing the walkway. In my little unit, people don't know how to clean up after their dogs, nor do they know how to let them in at night. We had to listen to our neighbor's dog all winter long until they got rid of it. Parking is a pain if you get home past 6 pm and have more than one car and, yes, the gates do typically malfunction at least once every six months. Overall, do I think that these are luxury apartments? Almost. They are certainly nicer than most of the surrounding Amlis in the same price range, but the materials used could be a little more luxurious for the price. But I suppose that is just nit-picking. They are nicer than most, certainly nicer than ANY in the area, and if you can catch them on a special, I'll recommend them without hesitation. It has been SO nice having access to all of the highways within minutes, but not so nice with the four traffic tickets that we have accumulated in a year and a half due to living within a stone's throw of the Lenexa police department. Despite all of the minor annoyances, if we could afford to stay here, we would.
