Resident 2015 - 2016

10/23/2016

I have lived at Prairie Lakes for about a year and a half and I plan to renew my lease next spring. First off, if you qualify for the low income tax credit, you will get a much better apartment for a significant savings. If they have any openings. I had to wait 3 months because they are in high demand. The apartments have the absolute best layout I have ever seen. My 900 sq ft 2 bedroom 2 bath feels enormous (for $780 by the way). We get comments on it all the time. The walls are also well insulated and the layout puts living rooms and bedrooms far from your neighbors. Bathrooms, kitchen and dining are on the shared walls. We're on the top floor and the ac/heater work extremely well. Electric varies from like $50-160 when I'm feeling really indulgent in the middle of the summer. Full size nice washer/dryer in each apartment which double as work space in the kitchen when needed. The staff does not answer the phones. Ever. If you want to contact a staff member about anything, just go down to the office during business hours. It is what it is. But when you do talk to them, they are very helpful, maintenance is prompt and professional, and they are consistent in providing notice if they are going to inspect or do any routine maintenance in your apartment. They are very hands-off in general. Pay your rent and they leave you alone. We live over by the playground and there are a good number of kids that my 7 year old daughter plays with. The area is safe enough that I feel fine letting her play without constant supervision. They like to fish in the stocked lake after school. The grounds are well kept, they just repaved the parking lots and power-washed and repaired all the buildings. Littering is definitely a problem with some of the residents, but I see others picking up the trash and trying to keep our complex looking good. We've been here long enough to watch a little bit of a turnover in the residents. I don't know if they have been screening better, but our community is way better than last year. We had some teenagers causing problems, and loud neighbors, but now everyone is respectful and awesome. Last year some teenagers broke a water pipe, flooded a building and created a mold problem. I spoke to one of the residents in the building at the time and, from her perspective, the staff was very understanding and helped her end her lease and move on to another place. Because the facility wasn't responsible for the damage (no faulty pipes) they also weren't responsible to replace her furniture. Which is why we are asked to provide proof of insurance before moving in. But this situation may account for some of the bad reviews in 2015. Overall, I have been really impressed by the way Prairie Lake handles the property and the residents. I feel really luck to have found this jewel and plan to stay here as long as I'm in the area.
