Resident 2016 - 2017

11/27/2017

My husband and I moved in Dec 2016 and were excited to potentially stay in a complex for more than a year (we travel a lot due to work). We met with the manager at the time and were impressed with how friendly he was and while the demo apartment was a bit outdated, it was still pretty nice. However, when we moved in, not only did our front door not latch (apparently the doors are so old, the parts aren't made for them anymore), the double pane windows no longer had a seal and leaked/froze over, the manager hovered while we were trying to do the move-in inspection (and therefore missed quite a bit of what was wrong with the apartment). The maintenance guys are great, but overworked, so it takes a while to fix any issue. We sent in multiple requests regarding leaking of our air conditioning... they came and drained the standing water and said it was fine. Fast forward a couple of weeks and the same thing happened again. Then they finally came and took the time to take things apart and figure out what the issue is. When we moved in our freezer didn't work, the front door STILL doesn't latch, our dishwasher has a perpetual smell, the shower doesn't drain well and we were told that even though the windows collect moisture because they no longer have the seal of the double pane, it's the resident's responsibility to constantly wipe them off so mold doesn't form. Not to mention they completely freeze shut in the winter. Since we've been here management has changed at least 2-3 times, with no notice to the residents. The only way you find out is when you walk into the office and someone new is there. The office staff now is not the best-- every time I go to pick up a package, they spend about 15 sec looking in the closet and then tell me that there is no package there and that I should call the post office. You have to insist several times that there is a package and you have a slip for it before they will put in any effort to find it. We had some college guys move above us a couple of months ago. When they moved in, one of them got too drunk and vomited all over the landing and stairs above us. Which means that vomit was all over the siding, stairs and landing on our level. Which is just a wonderful thing to walk out to in the morning. When my husband went to tell management, all they said was "oh my God, gross! I'm not cleaning that up!". 2 months later, we still have dried vomit on the siding and railing. When a huge dead frog was in the middle of the sidewalk, someone did come out to see, but their "taking care of it" was to move it about 6 inches into the grass. So every time we went to our cars or took our dog out, we had to make sure that the dog didn't get into the decomposing frog and there were flies constantly until the body was gone. The few interactions we've had with management hasn't been the greatest. When my husband emailed Erica regarding a prorated move out fee (after talking to her in the office with the promise of continued communication with no follow up), the response he got back was "I told you I would need to speak with my manager." While I get that tone in email can be read differently, there are many more professional ways to conduct yourself over email, even when you're annoyed. Lisa has been very polite and prompt with emails thus far, but I have been the only one emailing after how my husband was treated. While the location is very convenient to 471 and it's tucked back into a pretty quiet neighborhood, we can't wait to move out as soon as our lease is up.
