I've lived here for nearly five years now and this review is long past due. The ownership of this apartment complex has changed hands a few times in the last few years and it seems that with every turnover the owners care less and less about their residents and employees and more about their profit margins. The latest two were AllTrade, who changed the name from the much more common sense name of Bent Creek Apartments (since the complex is located right next to a bending creek) to King George apartments because the company sees itself as a tyrant. They came in, fired some of the oldest and hardest working staff (but thankfully not all of them, more on that later), and removed the balconies from the apartments in the most half assed way possible. They took away the doggy bags that were always available around the property making it more difficult for residents to clean up after pets, removed the ability to pay rent online, and raised the rent. Like true slum lords they provided less and wanted everyone to pay more for it. When they couldn't turn the profit they wanted to because people were leaving, they slapped some paint around here and there to attempt to polish the turd they created and sold the company to Beztek, the current owners. In all honesty, Beztek has treated residents (but certainly not employees) better than AllTrade although that isn't a high bar to meet. Doggie bags have returned, you can pay rent online again (yes, they keep raising it), and they hired Greg, the new maintenance man and one of the two reasons that I'm giving this place a 5 star rating (I'm saving the best for last). However, in order to raise their profit margins, they have taken overtime away from their hardest working employees which, of course, means that they are no longer incentivized to go the extra mile to make this property great. They're probably hoping to make the place seem more valuable on paper so they can sell it to the next company and don't give a damn about the families they screw over along the way. But enough about them, let's talk about the two people who keep this complex from being a hard pass. Greg responds to requests as soon as possible and has fixed every problem I've asked him to tend to. He's fast, unobtrusive and easy on the eyes. His care and attentiveness keeps this place from falling into being a ------, despite some of the owners best attempts. He hasn't been here long, but he's had a great positive impact on the property The one person who has remained consistent throughout all the changes and is one of the most fantastic humans and employees that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting is Amanda Slaymaker. She's the apartment manager who has worked behind the scenes at this complex for well over a decade to make life as best as she can for the residents. Despite the fact that her efforts have had the most positive effects on the lives of the residents, most of these plebeians don't understand what she does and how it effects them (just like the way very few people understand the efforts of their parents when they're young). She has struggled with the owners to attempt to keep rent prices reasonable. There's no doubt about it, if this place was managed by some uncaring yes man, the rent would've already reached a rate that would make it completely unaffordable. She works with residents however she can to help them keep their payments current, however, she is no push over. She has a job to do and she works hard to collect from those in the rears. She makes sure that her and maintenance and leasing people stay on top of their work so that residents have timely, convenient, and professional service. She walks the property frequently to inspect for problems and I've seen her pick up the duties of her staff such as cleaning apartments, and handling leases, several times. I've even seen this firecracker chase, drug addicts off the complex! Amanda Slaymaker maintains a close relationship with police and firefighters in the area so that she can count on them to keep an extra eye out on the complex when it's needed. Her efforts actually help keep crime in the area a bit lower. But that's not all folks! She throws pool parties, Halloween parties, and random social meet and greets for the residents all while being a single mom. She's truly a force to be reckoned with. If you are someone who works hard, pays what you're supposed to when you're supposed to do it and wants to take care of the place where you live, Amanda Slaymaker is hands down one the the best apartment managers you can ask for. If you're a company that wants to manage a complex, she is someone who deeply appreciates being treated fairly and will return the reasonableness, understanding, and kindness of an owner with hard work, a deep knowledge of her profession, and fathomless dedication. I, personally, am honored to have gotten the opportunity to be one of her residents and am deeply grateful for her efforts at making this complex a pleasure to live in. I'd give her 6 stars if I could.
