Resident 2014

5/22/2014

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Bluebonnet Place Apartments. When we moved in, our apartment was really dirty, even though staff had cleaned it and done a walkthrough- dead bugs everywhere, the floor looked like it had been mopped with dirty water, a layer of dirt/dust on every surface, etc. They were super quick about coming out to clean it, which was great (and we let them know), but from there, it's been very difficult to live here and feel at home. Management has been very hot and cold. We have some college guys living above us who play their instruments so loud every night that we have to shout to hear each other. We talked to them twice before going to management, who basically told us unless they play after 10pm, they aren't violating any rules (in our lease, it says we have the right to live peaceably and loud noise is in violation of the lease; additionally, it's a violation of the Baton Rouge code of ordinances). Another issue we've had is maintenance repairs- upon moving in, we realized one of the showers was unusable without causing water damage to the apartment. We put in a maintenance request (it's even on our inspection sheet). Maintenance came into our apartment, fixed the wrong tub, and left without a note saying they had been there. The same thing happened when they came back to fix the right tub- we only knew they had been there by the smell of the caulk. In the lease, it states that notification will be left in an obvious place after any maintenance has taken place. If they had left a note, we would have been able to know that we needed to let the caulk dry for 48 hours prior to use. We used it within the 48 hours and noticed the tub still pulled away from the wall, leaving a large crack for water to seep through. We called the office and were told they'd come back out to re-caulk it. It's been 3 weeks, the shower/tub is still unusable, and even with talking to the office four separate times, we still don't have a date as to when it's going to be fixed. The office staff is very friendly, and they're quick to respond back when there's an issue; however, when it comes to fixing the issue at hand, they don't seem bothered to act as quickly. There's a family that lives upstairs who let their dog run off the leash, don't pick up its waste, and, according to apartment staff, don't have him registered with the office as actually living here, yet the staff seemed surprised that we were upset (while we leash our dogs, pay $35/month for pet rent plus a $250 deposit, and pick up after our dogs to keep the community clean and safe). We even went as far to figure out which apartment the dog was in for them, and two weeks later, we still see it off the leash and not being picked up after. We signed our lease the last week in April, and we gave our 60 day notice the first week in May. As we're new to the area, our plan was to stay here for 7 months, then buy a house, but after a week of living here, we chose to expedite the process so we could move out as quickly as possible. We really wanted things to work out here- the apartments are a great price, in a good location, and you can't beat the square footage they offer. However, it's worth it to pay an extra $200 a month other apartments require to not have to deal with the headaches that come with living at Bluebonnet Place Apartments.
