What the HELL was I thinking???!!! HORRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE ON ALL LEVELS!!

My fiance and I moved in here about 9 months ago...we had to move in quick so when we finally found a place with an opening, we jumped at it. Not to mention that the manager TOLD us that the apartment was AVAILABLE. Needless to say, it wasn't. She called to say that they had to "clean" it up a bit before we got there, so we were ok with that. When we got there on move in day, we realized what clean up meant. It was INFESTED with roaches...not just a roach problem, no big deal...no! INFESTED!!!!! Our friend helped us move in and he was disgusted...and he lives in the frat house!! The manager went on to defend herself by saying that ours was the ONLY apartment with this problem and it was because the tenants before us didn't let Orkin in for a year. That was the beginning of the trouble. Next came the air conditioning. It has been broken almost the entire time of our residency. They even changed the WHOLE system out. It still doesn't work. Our electricity bill has been as high as $250. And we live in a one bedroom. It has never dipped below $100. We had to install a ceiling fan in our bedroom to make it livable. I read another review that maintenance came out in the middle of the night to fix the air...that person had to have been one of his friends...he wouldn't have done it for me!! Probably because the maintenance man is a horse's "---". He sucks. He is R-U-D-E!!!! He is also very very creepy. I wouldn't be surprised if he did steal the one girl's panties. Not to mention that things are never fixed properly or in a timely manner. I would have rather stayed at our overpriced apartment before this, where maintenance barged in on me nude, than to live where this particular man is employed. All I have to say is that he must really kiss the owner's "rear end" to still have a job here. They finally got rid of the imbacile, SHARI who used to manage and I really hope that the new apartment manager does well. She really does seem to care about the place. All they have to do now is replace maintenance and they'll be in business. I do agree with what others have said about Shari treating you like you were a liar. That is one thing she was actually GOOD at. I do not have any sort of a vendetta against her or the maintenance man, but come on...if this is your job, then take some damn pride in it. The poo poo in the toilet thing has yet to happen to me. But if it ever does, they had better be ready to hear it!! One thing about the toilet I did have a problem with was the cleanliness of it when we moved in. There was crusty dry urine CAKED under the tank. When we called management to complain and ask them what was up with that because the smell was awful!(the day after we moved in) She had the nerve to tell me that men lived there before us and tried explaining how men urinate!!! Defending the obvious lack of cleaning by saying, "You know how boys pee pee on the seat sometimes..." Well, I have lived with the same man for 4 years now and unless you are toilet training a child there should not be THAT much urine caked on the toilet. Instead of sending someone to take care of the problem, she explained how to clean it ourselves. I almost vomited while cleaning it and I don't have a weak stomach. My fiance had to clean it for me. He didn't like the idea of cleaning up urine from another man, but unless you live in a frat house (which he has, and I would rather live THERE than here) urine is not a welcome smell in your home bathroom. Another problem is the amount of stray cats. I love animals and in fact, I own a cat and also want to work with animals, but setting food out to strays only invites trouble. Drifters and the homeless are also a problem. I haven't heard of a break in lately, but I wouldn't be surprised. Also, they claim to allow you to put up a satellite...we were told not to. Another topic I want to touch on is having children in here...DON'T DO IT!! Don't allow your kids to move in and don't move in if you have kids. My mother and aunt have offered us to come live with them after seeing the place. We are literally counting the days on a calendar until we can move without breaking lease. My friends all say that it's a dump, even though we clean our apartment and have very nice furniture. They say it has nothing to do with us, but the quality of the apartment. They all offer us to come live with them also. I had one friend who lived here all of two months after signing a 6 month lease and broke lease because she couldn't stand it anymore. Maintenance creeped her out too. We discussed him at length one day. It IS close to campus and the lakes (walking distance to both) and the rent is cheap. However, I will advise you...Do not move into this place!!! You will regret it!
