Allows criminals to stay at the complex - is your safety worth it?
Let me preface this by saying I am not being paid or compensated in any way for my review of Lakeside Villas. I am writing this as an accurate portrayal of the time I spent there from 3/12/2010 through 6/14/2011, with ---------------- as the apartment manager. During this time, it came to my attention that the complex's "no criminals" policy had been circumvented --- this was told to me by one of my neighbors, who was employed by Lakeside as a maintenance worker. He mentioned that it was common knowledge that he had a criminal history at the office, yet he was rented a unit there anyway. This made me feel very uncomfortable, as call me prudish but I don't like the idea of only having 12 inches of sheet rock between where I sleep at night and a convicted felon. Add to this the fact that one of the residents living two floors down (a Baton Rouge police officer - ---!) was shot in the chest during my time there and narrowly avoided dying, you can see my concern! My vehicle was also damaged by the lawn care workers, and while I raised the issue with the complex, I ultimately had to approach my insurance agency as Lakeside would not provide assistance. If criminals and close calls are your thing, Lakeside is a viable option. The grounds are clean and service averaged about 2 days from the initial call until the issue was resolved (in my case all issues were relatively minor, just electrical faults, etc). The pool and fitness centers are nice as well. I had to rank "noise" as a serious problem because my apartment was close to, and facing the interstate. From what I hear, the units which border the lake are much quieter. A major complaint is the overages charged at the time of move-out, such as $75 for "cleaning the kitchen", $15 for "cleaning the fan", $35 for "cleaning the bathroom", $25 for "replacing drip pans", $10 for "roach treatment", etc. This is confusing, considering that Louisiana law clearly stipulates that "the tenant must return the property in the same condition allowing for normal wear and tear". Attempts to contact the property after move-out were unsuccessful, as they refused to provide documentation (photos, etc) of the supposed mess. Overall, the location is great, but if I were asked if I'd do it all over again, the answer would be a resounding "no".Share This Review
