Resident 2015 - 2019

6/16/2019

Let me preface this by saying the only reason I've lived here so long is because my credit was bad, and I'm in the process of improving it. Please, whatever you do, save your hard-earned dollars for somewhere decent. Moving into Sherwood Acres Apartments was the absolute worst decision I've ever made. First of all, the apartments are infested with fleas, rats, and roaches. The "pest control" people like to barge in while I'm away, so it's difficult to be able to tell them what's going on. They leave a note on my counter saying they treated the apartment for pests, but never really specified how. Plus, the infestation persists, so whatever they are doing is not effective at all. Next, I'd like to let you know that this is the filthiest place I've ever had the displeasure of living. The parking lot, sidewalks, and grassy areas are constantly littered. Sometimes, I even see drug needles laying around. In the mornings during the week, I see staff members going around picking up trash, but they leave half of it so it's never clean. This area is really not safe. Since I've been here, there have been several shootings, burglaries, fights, and vandalism. I can't even go to/from my car (night or day) without being harassed, threatened, or yelled at by other crazy racist residents. I can barely sleep at night because my neighbors are always fighting, yelling, and breaking stuff at night. People are constantly revving their engines and blasting their stereos all night long as well. It is relatively quiet during the day though, as long as I don't go outside to get harassed. The apartment complex is very old, and is in dire need of much more than remodeling. The water is often shut off for maintenance, yet it seems rarely fixed. Several times since I've been here, the pipes outside clog and overflow, resulting in a volcano of excrement, toilet paper, and condoms. It usually takes several days before someone will clean this mess up. The inside of the cabinets are made of a very cheap plyboard, and some even crumbled up when I put stuff in them. The only good thing I can say about this place is that they allow pets. It's difficult to find anywhere around here that does. There is a ridiculous $300 non-refundable pet deposit, however, and they charge extra every month to keep your pet (on top of your regular security deposit). I would like to know what they use that pet fee for, because they sure don't use it to clear out the flea infestations left by previous residents' pets! The price for a small 1-bedroom apartment ran me $760/month. The price is not outrageous, but it's definitely not cheap. Anyone would be better off spending just a little more for a place they won't be miserable. Again, please stay far, far away from here if you want a home with decent living conditions!
