Resident 2013

2/5/2013

I lived at Forest Isle for a year and enjoyed my apartment. The granite counters and spacious bedroom were fantastic. I only heard my neighbors when they were playing very loud music or yelling (game day?). Any other time things were very quiet and peaceful. The grounds are well maintained and one of the reasons we moved there was because of the landscaping. We were tired of looking at concrete everywhere and wanted greenery. It was really nice having the small dog park, although I spent most of my time with my pets on the levee playing fetch up and down the big hill to tire them out faster. The garbage areas were always kept clean. I recall smelling something very strong and reported it and the dumpster was hosed down so that the smell didn't last for very long. The car wash stations were really nice because there were several occasions when I needed to hose something out of the truck or wash my dog after he'd gotten muddy in the canal. I think maintenance does a fantastic job of staying on top of things and it is by far the BEST maintenance department in an apartment complex I've ever dealt with. Everything was dealt with swiftly and professionally. Many of their staff have worked construction and repair professionally before moving onto working for Forest Isle. Flooding was an issue that we were always afraid of but I recommend that if you do decide to rent here that you make sure you live to the left of the gate or have an upper story apartment. The main reason it flooded so badly when I lived there in 2011-2012 was because the drains weren't kept clean and they clogged up fast. After that I saw the landscaping crew out all the time making sure leaves and branches were thrown away so that they couldn't be washed into the drains if it decided to rain. Driving onto the property can be tricky because people aren't paying attention to stop signs. PLEASE BE CAREFUL and if you think someone's going to run a stop sign don't be a ----. Just stop and let them go, since it's better than getting hurt and having your car totaled. You don't need to prove a point by cutting in front of someone to make them hit you. The area was really nice, considering the section 8 living around the complex. I never felt uncomfortable walking my dog off property and we often saw lower income families outdoors with adults supervising children as it should be. There might be crime, but I only ever heard children playing and I lived right up against the backyards of the 'slum lord' apartments on Tullis.
