Resident 2006

6/13/2006

I've lived in Colonial Village for 1 year. There's no way I'm staying another year.

The one good aspect of Kamins: the maintence guys were generally friendly and helpful. I know this because I have had to deal with them on a very regular basis.

In short, the my apartment was crap. It seemed alright when they showed it to me- about what you'd expect for the below average price. However, problems started with it the day I moved in. Things that actually were fixed:

1)There were mice in the kitchen cabinates and under and behind the stove.

2) Every time the

Continued below...

toilet upstairs was flushed, dirty water would leak through the ceiling above my toilet. This problem was "fixed" but then reoccured a few days later- unplesant to say the least.

3) A hot water pipe, that had apparently been poorly installed and then improperly fixed burst in the living room- it didn't freeze, it just started leaking.

4) The windows were poorly installed, and one fell out of the frame and smashed the first time I opened it.

5)The ancient stove was in terrible condition, and has shocked me several times, turning off power to the entire apartment (probably means bad wiring, b/c it didn't just trip one circuit breaker)

Things that could not be/were not fixed:

1)Prior to moving in, the apartment was very poorly cleaned- it absolutely revolting when I moved in.

2) The entry hall ALWAYS smells like urine

3) Very poor sound insulation between floors- could always hear the people upstairs screaming at thier kids.

4) The heating was fairly ineffective in the winter. The small baseboard heaters kept the pipes from freezing- but that's about it.

5) No ventalation- the walls developed a serious black mold problem in the spring, which no ammount of surface cleaning could solve.

6) In the summer heat, the bedroom tile floor was constantly covered in condensation, creating mold, and damaging anything porus that contacted the floor.

7) The staff in the rental office was cold at best, and hostile at worst. Recieved an eviction notice due to their losing a check, and they were not very kind of helpful about solving the problem.

8) Kitchen cabinates do not close becaues of ancient fixtures which no longer latch. Ditto for bedroom closet doors, which kept falling off their tracks, and storage closet doors.

9) There are no door frames on the bathroom and bedroom doors, meaning that you can never fully close them. There is a latch, but there is always a gap- not a huge deal for the bedroom, but Guests always commented that they felt like they were peeing in the living room, or that they felt exposed when in the bathroom because the door wouldn't shut.
